Guest guest
hi again, first i want to thank marjorie and mary for their responses to my last pain post. mary, you sound very similar to me and i was interested in the part about lighting. besides facial rosacea i was diagnosed with blephrtis and ocular rosacea. i have red, dry eyes that hurt all the time. sometimes it is more annoying and other days (when i flare badly) my eyes hurt badly. besides sunlight i react badly to indoor lighting, especially flourescent. i want to know if it is a dumb idea to use sunglasses *indoors*. has anyone else done this? my sister just gave me hers and i used them in a resturaunt patio with bright lighting and it helps my eyes. i'm going through a moderate flare up now and i've been using the sunglasses here in my air conditioned apartment. it seems to calm my eyes down. the only bad part i can see is that some people may think i'm being rude. also, everyone thinks i'm blind (i have a service working dog). i've never asked a doctor if it is a good idea or not to use sunglasses all the time, indoors and out. will it make my eyes even more sensitive when i don't use the sunglasses? are their special kinds of glasses for people with photophobia or can i just use regular sunglasses? thank you again everyone. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Angie, I don't know of any permanent problems -- there could be, I wouldn't know. But one reaction that I've heard about is when eyes get " used " to sunglasses, there is some increased sensitivity to light beyond the underlying photophobia, perhaps making the readjustment period back to regular light even more difficult, esp with respect to colors. If the light hurts your eyes and you find sunglasses help, perhaps a lightly tinted (rather than full sunglass tinted) glasses would be a reasonable compromise. Your eye doctor should be able to help you with that. Good luck.
