Marie,

I agree with you on this. Marie and I had surgery the same day. I used to

buy my lunch at work. Now I bought a lunch bag and I was being kidded about

having such a lg bag when all I carry is prepackaged applesauce or jello. I

opened my bag and said this is why it is so large. It contains my vitamins,

citrucel, Tums, Actigall and Carafate. I said it isn't really a luch bag it

is really my medicine cabinet. There is a lot of juggling of meds. They

have to be taken at different times and they were kidding me about being so

disciplined about taking my meds and that I always seemed to be taking

something. Instead of a candy jar in my office I gave the candy away and

put Tums in the container. They look pretty and stay handy.

Debbie. I can understand how your daughter feels. I too do not want to tell

many

people. Somehow, even though I know differently, I still feel like people think

that being fat is a failing and that we can do something about it IF we really

want too - so, if we have to have surgery we were weak and couldn't do it any

other way. Well, the part about not being able to do it any other way is true

but we are NOT weak - we probably all know more about diets and dieting than any

thin person does and most doctors. It is not a personal failing. I think it

would be OK for her to tell family but I would not tell the kids at school --

let

them admire her for the loss not the procedure!!!! Joanne in Ohio

Hi Guys: I told anyone and everyone who would listen. My daughter Drema plans

to have

the surgery and is not telling anyone. Doesn't want to put up with being

judged. She's just

going to say that she's eating healthy and getting lots of exercise.

It's really a very personal decision and one that each person has to make for

themselves. At

16, I suspect will eventually let the cat out of the bag to a few chosen

people.

This weekend we went to our campground. We have been going there for 6 years now

and

we have neighbors who I suspect would be very very judgemental. That's just how

is.

Instead he hugged me and told me he was proud of me and that it took a lot of

courage to go

through with it! Really surprised me. You never know what someone's reaction

will be!

Hi Marie,

I hope I'm not intruding but I am new to this group and I am amazed by all

the wonderful support that is offered. I just noticed your message to

Debbie and I noticed that you are 3 weeks post op. I am 99.9% sure that I

want to have this surgery if my insurance approves it, but I am really

interested in the transistion after surgery. I lead a very busy life like

everyone else, and I just want to be sure that I can keep up with what I'm

doing now and hopefully add more activities with my 7 year old little girl.

Can you tell me a little more about your last 3 weeks? I may not even be

posting this message correctly, as I am new to this, but I can't stand it

any longer. I know there is so much knowledge to gain from the " other

side " . Thanks for any input you may have.
