Guest guest
Please help with some instructions. I have to wait at least 6 weeks before my PCP will consider recommending me for this surgery (due to severe anemia). My husband has agreed to self pay in insurance won't pay. I don't know the precise order in which to correctly do this. Do I wait until my PCP recommends the surgery before I have a consultation with Dr R or attend a clinic? Do I go ahead and make an appointment with Dr R? Does it take long to get an appointment? I don't want to wait to get an appointment after the PCP recommends me ONLY to then find out that it takes 2-3 months to get an appointment. I want to streamline the process. Any suggestions? Guest guest
Do you live in Durham or are you from some distance away? You will have to attend one clinic before surgery if you are from out-of-town, 3 if you are from in-town. If you are from in-town and need to attend 3 before surgery, you might try to get at least 2 of those done now, while you are working on your other stuff. You will probably have time to get in one clinic visit before surgery after you get a surgery date when you turn in your packet. Getting into a clinic isn't difficult, you don't need a lot of notice and you see Dr. R. at the end of the clinic. First thing to do is fill out the online patient information form. Submit that and note that you are self-pay. Once the arrangements are made for payment, the next step would be turning in your " packet " (patient information letter, PCP support letter, family support letter, physical, pertinent medical records, two photos of yourself, patient contact information) all in one. This is a tall order. You can get everything except your PCP letter together now. May as well start working on it. Once you have your PCP support letter and turn in your packet, you will get a surgery date the same day Debbie/Barbara get your packet and the time flies from thereon. Surgery date is often two-three weeks from the date your packet gets in. Before you have surgery, you need an EKG, bloodwork (CBC and electrolytes) and stool guiac, that have to be done within 30 days of your surgery date, so save those for last, but send them in with your packet. You also have to have a recent (within 1 year) pap test, mammogram, and chest x-ray, so if you haven't had those, get those done now because the mammogram and pap test take about a week to come back.
