Guest guest
Elaine said that non-SCD foods could be tried cautiously one year after being symptom free. So, if you consider today as being symptom free, then you would continue the diet for one more year, then add back non-SCD foods, one at a time, and see how it goes. Guest guest
I strongly suggest that you relax in this area of introducing " illegal " foods. On Elaine's web site she talks about how the " SCD is the biologically correct because it is species appropriate.......the diet we evolved to eat over millions of years was predominantly one of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, nuts, low-sugar fruits. Our modern diet including starches, grains, pasta, legumes, and breads has only been consumed for a mere 10,000 years. In the last hundred years the increase in complex sugars and chemical additives in the diet has led to a huge increase in health problems ranging from sever bowel disorders to obesity and brain function disorders. We have not adapted to eat this modern diet as there has not been enough time for natural selection to operate. It therefore makes sense to eat the diet we evolved with. " By Elaine Gottschall I have also read the book " The Paleo Diet " By Loren Cordian Ph.D. (although NOT SCD SAFE, stick to SCD way of eating), he talks about all the foods ELAINE just so happens to promote! I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to receive validation to adhere to the SCD diet for life! He talks about all the reasons that we need to be eating the " original diet of mankind " . ALL OF US AS HUMAN BEINGS...not just celiac's, and autistics.......all of us! Best regards, Antoinette Re: How long on diet? > > My daughter (6 year old, ASD) has been on SCD for 8 months. Guest guest
> > Carol, > > Thanks for your reply. What do you mean by " the last symptom? " > ~Jill > > Here I have to be subjective. For me, it would be abdominal pain, gas, loose stools and cramps, extreme constipation getting adverse reactions to a number of foods. After six years I cannot put a quarter inch square of say flatbread in my mouth without an immediate reaction, dizziness, stuffed nose watery eyes (that suggests a grain allergfy of course). In my case i will probably never be able to take back grain. Read BTVC and it describes the many symtpoms associated with gastric diseases. Autism has additonal symptoms of course. Stimming, rashes, anger.introversion and being anti social etc. The parents describe children that are healing as losing these. Carol F.
