Guest guest
Hey there, thanks so much for your info, I was afraid noone would be in the same boat as me, I usually take my pills (three of them) at bedtime. Dr. R wanted me to get a letter from my dr. stating that I could take them one at a time. So, I saw her last night and she wrote the letter, she was concerned that after the operation I wouldn't be getting the full effects of the medication, due to malabsorbtion. Are you having any trouble with the mood swings, are they worse since you had the operation. The last thing I want to do is go back to being who I was before I was diagnosed with bipolar. Again, thanks so much for your info. One more question I just thought of, I know that Depakote makes you eat more, are you having any trouble losing weight? >From: joantra@... >Reply-To: MiniGastricBypass (AT) e >To: MiniGastricBypass (AT) e >Subject: Re: BI POLAR DISORDER >Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 09:44:05 EDT > >In a message dated 06/13/2000 8:46:41 AM Eastern Daylight Time, >Aprilsands@... writes: > ><< I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder >> > > HI I'm Bi-Polar > > I'm also on depakote 1000 mg @night (2,500 mg tablets) I call them horse >pills. >I ask DR R about my psych drugs (paxil, buspar, and wellbutrin) I took my >mediciation the before surgery the day after I was home I e-mailed and ask >DR >R and he told me to continue all psych med. Guest guest
Hey there, thanks so much for the information. Dr. R wanted a letter stating that it would be ok to take one pill (depakote) three times a day instead of how I'm use to taking them, three at a time. I went to see her last night and she said that would be fine and wrote a letter, her concern was me not getting the full effects of the meds due to malabsorbtion, of course I am concerned over this too, I surely don't want to go back to being like I was before I was diagnosed with bipolar. It is helpful to hear that your not having any trouble. Thanks for the information. >From: smootgen@... >Reply-To: MiniGastricBypass (AT) e >To: MiniGastricBypass (AT) e >Subject: Re: BI POLAR DISORDER >Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 08:33:01 -0500 > >Hi April, > > I'm not bi-polar.....sometimes I wish I was.....I would love a >manic >high once in awhile. Guest guest
Hi April, I'm not bi-polar.....sometimes I wish I was.....I would love a manic high once in awhile. I have treatment resistant major depression.......I have been on long term disability for over two years now. Since my depression is treatment resistant, the only medication I stopped was Buspar for anxiety. I do know the anestheologists were glad I was not on an anti-depressant when I had another surgery before the MGB. I had my MGB 5-31-00 and I have not resumed any meds.... estrogen, thyroid,Buspar....and I am feeling fine. I am supposed to resume them tomorrow......I'll be two weeks post-op then. Your best bet is to e-mail Dr.R and ask him if and when you should stop your Depakote. It could be that he will want you on it until surgery but then again he may want you off of it. He may want to see what your Psychiatrist has to say about it. Be on the safe side...ask Dr.R. Guest guest
Hi April, Actually this entire MGB process has been good for me. It has given me something to focus on and I feel good about actually completing all the requirements to be approved for the surgery. Everyone seems so worried about post-op depression but like I told my psychiatrist.......I'm not afraid of something I already have. I can say that my emotions have stayed pretty much in check since surgery. I'm always fine unless I'm put in a stressful situation........then it's uncontrollable tears. Like I said before, I restart my thyroid, hormones and Buspar tomorrow. I do not feel much different than before surgery as far as my mental/emotional health goes. I haven't experienced any emotional rollercoaster rides yet. Maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones and avoid that side effect.
