I am 5'8 " and was 239 when I had my surgery. Dr. Rutledge let me have my

surgery because of the co-morbidities I also had besides the weight.

I was also a self-pay. I paid Dr. R $3455; the anesthesiologist was $792;

and the hospital was $7000. I had to give the hospital a cashiers check for

$11,000 and just got the overpay check today.

Hope this helps

You have to be 100 pounds over your ideal weight or 50-100 pounds

over

your ideal weight if you have " comorbidities, " which are problems

such

as diabetes, asthma, arthritis, sleep apnea, high blood pressure.

It also goes by " Body Mass Index, " ( " BMI " ). If your BMI is over 40,

you are " morbidly obese " and qualify for the surgery. If it is

between 35 and 40, you can qualify if you have comorbidities. Go

here

to compute your BMI:

I don't know how long after a pregnancy you have to wait for surgery, but I

do know that there is a discount for self-pays. I think it's 20%, but check

the website to be sure. As for being " big enough " , if you aren't there is

also the mini gastroplasty (I think that's what he calls it) that Dr. R. is

doing now for people who have 50-100 lbs to lose. Since you are planning to

be a self-pay this might be for you. Also I think it is cheaper than the

MGB. Check it out on the website! Good luck!

I had high cholestrol, high blood pressure, joint aches, feet aches,

depression, and family history of heart disease, cancer, high blood

pressure, diabetes.

I was 240 when I had the surgery May 24. In the three weeks since, I have

lost 16 lbs.
