Dear , I didn't get any calls. All my arrangements were made through

Debbie. I think you can call and talk to him IF you have some concerns or

questions that are not answered or if you just want to hear his voice and see

what kind of creature he is!!!! lol He doesn't have a lot of personality on

the phone though, as I talked to him on the phone a couple times with

questions. I think I caught him when he was in deep thought about something

else!! But now in person, he is a delight and lots of fun to talk with. He

has a unique type " Doctor " personality that is so very refreshing. You will

like him, for sure. So if it would make you feel better to call him before

you leave then by all means, call him up!!! I did email him several times

before I left Missouri and the answers I got back from him were one line

sentences!!! I don't think he types all that well or of course, has time to

spend on lengthy discussions. I just knew that he was the right doc for me,

his reputation speaks for him very well. Best of luck to you. Have no fear,

you are in expert hands and you will be well taken care of. in

I never received any calls from him or his office. I called and also

e-mailed Debbie to see if my packet had arrived. It cost me $22

to send it overnight so I wanted to make sure it arrived on time. I

am thinking maybe those phone consultations were when he was not in

such demand. Unless there is something specific he may need to

discuss. I could be wrong!! Call the office if you need more info if

they are busy they will return your call. Some of the stuff in the

manuel is outdated I think!!! He is a very nice Dr. and you are in

very good hands.

I didn't get any calls from Dr. Rutledge out of the blue, but I did

call him in advance by paging him at the hospital to get him to call

in prescriptions before surgery (my health insurance requires

prescriptions to be filled at one particular place) and he called me

back for that.

He answers questions at the clinic, so have your questions ready.

You'll also see a video of what the actual surgery looks like as Dr.

R. stands there and explains what you are seeing.

He also visits with you one-on-one after the clinic. I don't think

you'll feel short-changed.

You can get 90% of your questions answered here in this group, too,

before you go.

I only had one burning question by the time I got to clinic. I

wanted

to know if the part of the stomach that is cut away from the new

smaller stomach would still gurgle or send hunger signals to the

brain. Surprise (to me), Dr. Rutledge says it isn't the stomach that

sends hunger signals to the brain, it is the small intestine, and the

larger, unused part of stomach doesn't gurgle because it doesn't have

any air left in it. It also does not atrophy, it just stays there

as-is.
