Guest guest
Hi Sara... I also filled out my patient information form on May 30. I got a copy of the letter that was sent to my insurance company yesterday, 6/12. It came standard US mail, I think it was sent out last Thursday, 6/8. I don't know if this helps or not, but just thought I would let you know. Maybe you should give the office a call if yours doesn't come within the next day or two? Good luck, I'll be thinking of you! Deb in IL P.S. I don't know if it matters or not, but I sent my packet in a couple days after the PI form. Dr. R.'s office received my packet on Monday, 6/5. Maybe that was what they used to send the insurance company's letter?

Guest guest
Trish, When you say that Debbie will be approving pt. while the doc is gone, does that mean she will actually approve them for the surgery and set the date if she has all the pertinent info? Guest guest
OK I hate to keep obsessing about this, but does anyone know if it is really unusual that I filled out my Patient Information form on May 30th and haven't heard anything? I emailed Debbie last week, and she didn't know because her computer is not hooked up to Dr. R's. I emailed Dr. R several days ago to ask if he got it, and I haven't heard anything. I don't want to bother them again if it is normal for it to take this long to hear anything. It seems that many people have heard much sooner than this, though. I waited for the mail today hoping to get a copy of the letter, but it didn't come. Can anyone out there ease my mind about this? If Dr. R didn't get it for some reason, then I want to do it again as quickly as possible! I have a really hard time being patient about anything to do with the MGB because I just want to have it sooooo badly!!!!! Thanks, Sara
Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who has given me advice about not hearing yet about my patient information form. I think I probably need to give them a call at the office and see if they can tell me anything. In fact, I just tried to call, but it is clinic day, and they are all out of the office, so I'll try again tomorrow. If anyone has any more advice for me, I'd love to have it! Thanks you all (I live in Tennesse, so I can say " you all " or more appropriately " y'all " ) Sara

Guest guest
Sara, Didn't you say you sent it in May 2nd???? That's the same day I sent mine in and I crashed Dr.R's computer...remember? Well, I got my approval about 2 weeks later and I had my surgery 5-31. I think you should do some serious calling. Maybe it got lost in the computer crash. Good luck!!!! Guest guest
The American Society of Bariatric Surgeons meeting is this week. It started today, so Dr. R. is either already there or still working on his paper. His presentation is on Saturday. Call your insurance pre-certification number and see if they got the certification request from Dr. Rutledge. > OK I hate to keep obsessing about this, but does anyone know if it is really > unusual that I filled out my Patient Information form on May 30th and haven't > heard anything? Guest guest
Hi, Sara! It's Dee from Michigan and I'm so aware of what you must be going through as you wait to hear from the various offices and staff. While I waited, I cleaned out drawers, closets, cars, old letters...you name it! Anything to stay busy and keep my mind off the mailman and all the appointments and letters which had to be juggled in preparation for this surgery. I'm post-op now...but I clearly remember the waiting for surgery. We encourage you and support you. Tackle some small project every day which you've been putting off. Make your lists of what you want to have ready for when you're home from the MGB. Gather in your after-surgery liquids. You may not be able to control the timing of all this paperwork, but you can use the time to keep yourself sane Love and a hug to you! Guest guest
Hi, I got my copy of Dr. R's letter to my insurance company in the mail today! I was very relieved because I had been afraid that maybe my patient info form never got to Dr. R's computer. My husband called the insurance company for me, and (of course) they have not received the letter yet. So, we faxed my copy to them, just to try to give a better chance of them getting it. Also, my insurance company said they would like the doctor's office to call them before they look at the written info. I called Dr. R's office and talked to Barbara (she was very nice and patient with my questions), and she said that there are two different things going on here - there is predetermination and then there is precertification - and they shouldn't need any call for predetermination. I had not realized that there were two parts of this whole horrible and scary insurance process. Apparently first it has to be decided whether they will possibly pay for this kind of surgery (predetermination), and then they will start thinking about whether they will actually approve me to have this surgery (precertification). The exclusion in my policy that has to do with weight says that they will not cover any treatments for obesity, except morbid obesity. I am assuming, and hoping that that means that they will cover me since my BMI is now 43 (it was 42 when I started this process, and I'm scared I will just keep going up and up if I don't have the MGB soon.) I would sure appreciate any uplifting words of encouragement anyone can give me. I have stayed fairly calm until this point in the process, and I am trying very hard to continue to remain calm, but I am having a really hard time because this is my LIFE we are talking about here, and SOMEONE ELSE gets to decide whether I can have relief from my co-morbidities, whether I can have a decent quality of life, and possibly even whether I live or die!!!! Thanks for all your help, support, and answers to my questions. Sara
