First of all, thank you for posting your Marantha peanut butter information

Jody!!!!

So, Jody G. made a post, I believe yesterday, that the Marantha brand natural

peanutbutters, which is available at Mercola.com and many health food stores,

has virtually no aflatoxins.

I looked into it some, and will keep investigating this. It appears that the

Valencia peanuts, which are grown in hot and sunny southern california, are less

likely to have the Asperilligus fungus (don't quote my spelling) growing on

them. Drier conditions tend limit the fungi exposure and growth. Meanwhile,

other peanuts, like peanuts grown in Virginia, referred to as " Virginia Peanuts "

tend to have much higher amounts of aflatoxins, as the growing conditions while

hot, are often very humid.

This would make any organic valencia peanut butter, like Natural Value or

Marantha by far the superior choice. I had no idea until Jody posted this.

But one thing, valencias are not completely free of aflatoxins either. In the

early 1960's, the FDA established a " safe amount " of this fungi in the food

products, even though there is no known safe amount, as it is a human

carcinogen. I am going to keep following up on this issue, and bend the ear of a

couple food scientists I know, and will post if I find out anything else.

Peanuts should not be consummed early in the diet, as they are not a true nut,

but actually a legume. They are cousins with peas. Peanuts and peas are

difficult to digest, period.

I am a huge peanut butter lover, and so are my children, I am going to sample

some of Marantha's organic valencia peanut butter. I will post my experience

with it. I am really hoping we have no problem with it though, Jody's post made

me a wee bit excited!
