Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have some questions that I have not been able to find the answers to yet. It seems like immediately after surgery....maybe within 2 weeks, some co-morbidities disappear. Diabetes, high blood pressure....How does this happen so quickly? At our high weights, I don't understand how 20-25 pounds can have such a profound effect. I don't think our bodies would have " cleaned out " by then. Anyway, I am really glad that it happens, I just don't understand how. Thanks for all help! Aimee Pre-OP First denial from Ins. Co.
Guest guest
Hi Aimee: I was wondering the same thing. I don't know how I went from having huge ankles and feet that were constantly painful to waking up the morning after surgery with no swelling! I never asked Dr. R how or why..guess I was just so thrilled with the results that I didn't question. I figured that I was so well hydrated with the iv that there was no swelling...but then when the iv came out and I left the hospital, the swelling never came back. And good riddance to it. My blood pressure did not come down immediately, it took about two weeks to level off to an acceptable place. It was down a small amount in the hospital but kept going on as each day went by. I'll know for sure when I go to the Dr. on Wednesday whether I am off blood pressure meds completely. But I suspect that it's normal. As to sleep...I sleep all night for the first time in years and did from the time I left the hospital. No more gasping for air and waking over and over during the night not able to breathe, propping myself higher and higher, etc. None of that returned..and good riddance to that too! So if and when you find out how this miracle occurs, let me know. For now, I'm just so grateful to have ankle bones and feet that I just enjoy looking down at them. Guest guest
Hi Aimee- I was like you when I read about all the good coming so soon to those just out of surgery-it seemed too good to be true! Now that I am 3 weeks post-op tomorrow I can tell you that for me-it is true!!! My blood pressure was kinda high for the year before surgery-170/85-95 and I had serious gastric reflux and my knees and joints in my legs were soooo painful-especially when going up or down stairs. Let me tell you-I have lost 31 lbs. and my bp is holding at 130/75-80, my knees and joints have not bothered me even ONCE and i have had NO gastric reflux!!!! It's a miracle!!! I am at the point where I will not question all this good stuff-I'll just accept it!!! Guest guest
Hello Everyone - I am new to the group and have never written before, though I have been reading all of your posts for nearly 2 months. My story is similar to many of yours; I have long history of obesity, however I have had very few of the co-morbidities that many of you write about. My blood pressure is normal and always has been, I have some occasional swelling but nothing serious. I am a positive, upbeat, enthusiastic, fun loving woman and have been blessed with a terrific husband of 23 years and two great teenage daughters. I am on no medications except for some ibuprofen for some occasional leg pain. My BMI is 43 so I know that I qualify, however I am concerned that my BCBS insurance won't pay unless I have a few more " problems " . I also happen to live in Michigan and have followed with interest all of the stories relating to the challenges so many with BCBS have had in getting approval. Not a day goes by that I don't think about what life would be like being a " normal " size. I have been inspired by so many of your positive stories and feel I have the committment and determination to make it happen! Thanks for listening, in Michigan
