Guest guest
In the United States it is a Federally and State mandated plan to ac comodate to the handicapped and/or chronicly ill child, much as the IEP is a Federally and State mandated plan to accomodate to those performing below class/age level. The 504 can be used to keep the school from penalizing the child with chronic illness, such as cf, or physical handicap, such as amputation, from missing school days, being late to class, needing to take longer to use the bathroom, etc. I am not up to date on what other countries do, but am aware that the Scandinavian countries have led the way with accomodation. I hope that this helps, if only a bit. Good luck, n Rojas
