Guest guest
Joia, This message board is for everyone. I'm not the moderator or owner, just a member. I really haven't seen your posts but I have had to delete some messages because I was in the hospital again. Normally, the members are great to respond but sometimes questions might not get answered because no one knows the answer. According to my doctors, I don't have CP. I have recurring attacks of acute pancreatitis. My GI says they are caused by adhesions and I am scheduled to yet another surgeon in a couple of weeks. Did the original doctor diagnose you with chronic pancreatitis based only on one lab test showing an amylase of 168? If that is the case, I guess knowing nothing more I might tend to agree with the GI you saw. However, if you had an attack of acute pancreatitis, I'd probably want to investigate the possible cause even if the amylase was only 168. If you are having no pain and problems, I might let it rest. Only you can decide that. Tell us your story again. I'm defiitely not the best one to answer questions as my situation is quite different from most everyone else's. I don't want you to feel neglected, though. that's not a good thing and it is never done intentionally with this group. W hello....? Is this message board for a select group of people? or do you have to be very sick before you get replies to your posts. The GI is sending me for other tests, but isn't really saying what for or why. I made an appointment to see another GI, but am unsure whether I should even bother. Guest guest
Joia, have you asked the doctor why he wanted those tests taken. Sometimes you have to just ask or they go on and do their own thing. This isn't a select group, but many are too sick to read their posts every day and others are in and out depending upon how they are feeling that day and so it sometimes takes a while before you get an answer. Or it could be that no one at that time knew an answer to your question ( I don't remember what it was and my memory is so bad these days that I usually forget what I did the day before half the time. Memory loss is unfortunately a side effect of most pain meds). As for your amylase levels, it is possible to have normal levels and still have problems with pancreatitis, but it is usually preceded by pain, diahhrea and/or vomiting (in any combination or alone). If you've had one case, it's usually a good idea to keep an eye on your levels, keep on a low fat diet and avoid alcohol like the plague. If you continue to show symptoms (even sporadically), and your current GI isn't helping, get another one. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Hi Joia! I am sorry that you are feeling so frustrated. I understand how confusing all this can be. You could consider your self lucky (if you can call it that) that at least it didn't take you long to get your CP diagnosis. I have had abdominal pain and other pancreas issues for several years and just recently (Oct. 29 to be exact) got a diagnosis of CP. And part of me feels like my GI did it to shut me up! You are doing the right thing by going to another GI. Keep going until you find one your comfortable with...that is really important. Heidi gave you some great advice..she is very knowledgeable. So keep your chin up and do research on your own. The Internet offers countless hours of information on this subject. I hope you are feeling well and keep us posted on your condition. Sending lots of happy thoughts your way..... Marisa San Diego, CA
