Guest guest
, I am appalled that U of M would send her home on Elavil; this is by no means a pain medication used on its own but rather in conjunction w/other pain medications to enhance their effects. Just because they did not see anything doesn't mean she does not have SOD or anything else - it just means they are not specialized in the area of the pancreas and did not recognize a problem or know what they are looking for. I would think that it's time she takes control of her medical care. If at all possible, call Dr. Glen Lehman at Indiana University Hospital or e-mail: glehman@... for a second opinion - he is an expert. From everything I have read about Dr. Lehman from this forum - I bet he could diagnose her the first time from an ERCP. Also, I found a Dr. Ben Menahem at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit who is an expert in biliary disease at 1- - maybe they could tell you if anyone there specializes in the pancreas. Even if you have to pay for it up front -she can probably get a diagnosis that would at least let you know if you should continue pursuing Dr. Sutherland for the Islet Transplant or not. Even though my appointment with Dr. Grace Elta (at U fo M) didn't go as well as I would have liked - she did ask me if anyone had given me anything for my pain. I don't know if you need a referral to Lehman; maybe someone on the list could answer that for you. Dr.Lehman is my next step as soon as my insurance changes the first of the year. Best wishes to you and your sister Debbie in Mich
