Guest guest
My son's eczema also disappeared after a couple months SCD. I'd been trying to get rid of it since, um, well.... BIRTH, 5.5. yrs ago!! In addition, his belly is flat (no longer has an " outie " belly button!!,) and his poops are much more regular and less gassy, normal colored. Incidentally, J. has had some nasty bug for the last 2 weeks. Ear infections, cough.... for 2 nights I got desperate and gave him some cough syrup that was loaded full of illegals, colors, etc. A day later, the eczema was back!! So what do you all use for cough syrup when your kiddo just can't stop hacking? Is there anything OTC that is legal? Herbs? I'd tried hot steam, honey, etc. Any ideas? Guest guest
Hi Becky, This is from our old list posted by Patti D: " COLD REMEDIES Most of these would not work if you're avoiding honey.... but here goes..... Ginger and honey make a wonderful cough " syrup " ..... you can use regular powdered ginger like you use for baking. Add about 1/4 teaspoon to 2 Tablespoons of honey..... mix well and then give one teaspoon or less at a time. Fresh carrot juice with a small chunk of fresh ginger and a little fresh garlic in it would be very healing..... but dilute, dilute!! May have a strong taste. Fresh lemon juice in water, heated up.... sweetened w/ honey is great for colds and sore throats. Just keep the liquids up for that cough. A little cayenne pepper and garlic added to SCD chicken soup would be great, too..... especially if you can't do honey right now. Cayenne opens up the small capillaries in the body and helps relieve pain.... and battles infection. I think it helps loosen up the tight chest congestion. Let fever run if you can........ let it do it's job. Unless a fever is VERY high...... and for a child as young as Hannah, pedicatricians don't consider even 104 to be all that high (but call YOUR doc to ask).... you should not try to suppress it because it's battling the virus. I only give Tylenol if there is pain involved.... headache, sore throat.... that is just unbearable. There seem to be drawbacks to using either Tylenol (bad for kids w/ autism) or ibuprofen (very bad for the gut)..... so best to avoid both of these. Someone posted the other day about peppermint oil for fever.... but I didn't save the post. Tepid baths..... or sponge baths.... can work well to cool down a high fever..... but unless it's really raging high, you should think of fever as your friend. SUDDEN HIGH FEVERS can be a danger sign for something like meningicoccal disease so don't mess around with that.... call the doctor!! " I found the ginger/honey combo quite effective.
