Has anyone ever had any problem with flying home after a couple of days after

the surgery?

I know that Dr. R likes us to stay around for a while, but if all goes well I

will be having my surgery on the 8th of June and I understand that he will be

going on vacation soon after that. I don't know who will take his patients when

he is gone if there is a problem.....DOES anyone know?

Anyway, I found this article to be very interesting....its from Bottom line

magazine.

How to Stay Healthy While Traveling by Air

Bettes, MD, MPH

American Airlines

AVOIDING COMPLICATIONS

If you’ve had recent surgery or have a chronic health

problem, ask your doctor if you’re stable enough to

fly...

Recent surgery. Postpone flying at least one week

after

major surgery -- two weeks after coronary bypass surgery.

The danger is that air that might have been trapped

inside

the body during surgery could expand under reduced air

pressure. This could cause torn sutures and other

problems.

I contacted Dr. Rutledge directly regarding this very issue. Though

I don't know who his covering his patients during his vacation, he

told me that he will be available in Durham until June 16th. So, you

don't have to worry that he will operate on you on the 8th and leave

town on the 9th! There should be plenty of time for recovery before

he leaves. One less thing for you to worry about, I hope. Hope this

helps.

Best Wishes,

Kris
