Guest guest
Hey ALL, As some of you know and some may not, Brandan had his surgery on Aug. 12, 2002. After 10 hours of surgery 124,000 islet cells were extracted and transplanted or transferred back into Brandans liver, He spent a few days in ICU, but has progressed very rapidly, much to the delight of all the Drs. and Nurses here in MN. Although he has had some very major ups and downs he has done well fighting fevers, infection and pain from the surgery. Today is Day 15 after the surgery, it is also the day after my birthday, THERE is no greater gift that I could have recieved than the words that I have yearned so very long to hear. Brandan got to eat his FIRST PAIN-FREE Mcs French Fries today, there was NO PAIN. Brandan knows it is going to take some time to recover from all his body has gone through fighting this disease and also recovering from this disease. Right now we are not sure whether or not he will be diabetic, it is something he is learning now to deal with and accept if it does happen, many people live today with diabeties, but it is knowing that for the first time in his life he can eat as everyone else does pain-free is what we have waited so long to hear. We wanted to share this good news with you all, and will keep you updated as things progress. We cant thank everyone who has had a part in giving him his second chance at a normal pain-free life enough, there truly is not a word that has been invented that could hold such meaning. So we will just say " THANK YOU " . As always keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers..Keep smiling(cuz sometimes its all one can do!) TTFN..Peg and Brandan...: )
