There are adhesives and bonding materials used in the ER (and probably the OR) to close the top layer of skin when the injury is relatively minor and limited to certain areas of the body. I have developed an allergy to adhesives in the last few years. I have had to experiment, and have found that duoderm can cause some minor itching, while adhesives associated with tapes cause severe itching, bumps and even welts. Hope that helps.
