Guest guest
Hi All.. I wanted to let y'all know that everything went fine with my colonoscopy yesterday.. I was in horrible shape come monday night because I was hit with bad depression monday morning and then not being able to eat, living on liquids and laxatives and spending every 15 minutes in the bathroom only made it worse.. I was exhausted and finally tried to lay down about 10:30 pm but when I did, my mind wouldn't stop going.. I finally broke down and started crying.. Poor chuck didn't have a clue because I thought I was being silly for getting so upset/scared about it.. I also couldn't figure out why on earth I was so depressed... After about an hour I got up and called my mom since she had her test earlier that day and I was also beginning to worry about her.. She was fine.. The test picked up that she had acid reflux but no cancer or polyps.. THANK GOD!!! Well, after about an hour of speaking with her and gaining her reassurance I finally calmed down.. I still cannot believe I was THAT scared... I was more sure about the WLS than I was about a simple little test! But, I did manage to get about 3 hours sleep.. We got to the hospital at about 6:40am and was told that I was not on the scedule.. Someone from the dr's office had told them thr 29th when all the paperwork I had said the 20th.. BUT, since I had done the prep already, they weren't about to send me home.. They too me back within about 10 minutes or so of being there and got my IV started.. Once again, i started to get scared.. But, there was no way I was backing out... Once they took me into the room where I was having the test, I finally met the Dr and told him about my family history.. He told me that he believes I have " Lynch Disease " and carry the gene.. He will be calling Duke to find out more about the genetic testing.. Well, once they gave me the sedatives, I felt MUCH calmer.. The Dr was a little rougher than I would have expected and made the comment that I was " sore " .. Gee.. I can't imagine why!! The test itself took about 1/2 hour I guess.. I was too busy watching the monitor as much as I could.. At one point he was going around one of the bends and it brought me to tears because there was so much pressure.. He just kept telling me " Just hold on " ... It wasn't pain, per se but, was very strong... After that was over, I was fine.. I wanted to sleep so bad bacause I was so tired but I was glued to that monitor... He DID find about 5 or 6 polyps on my colon and one in my rectum.. They were very small and he took them out to do biopsies on them.. When he was done they took me to the recovery room.. In just a few short minutes I asked if I could get dressed and have a drink.. I didn't dare drink anything before the test because i couldn't handle going to the bathroom again.. (I made the comment to Chuck that I would rather have been in labor WITHOUT the epidural.. hehehe...) Well, they brought Chuck and in to stay with me until the dr came in to talk to us.. Dr Poulos came in about 1/2 hour or so later and told us that the polyps he found were very small and he don't expect them to amount to anything.. He also said that he would call me when he had the results back from the biopsy and also let me know what Duke says about the genetic testing... I asked him about any other tests and he said I would not need any other tests and that I don't need to be examined for another 3-5 years.. I think I will go again in 2 years just to be on the safe side... It definately can't hurt... Now I just wait for him to call to give me the results... I was told not to do anything yesterday but with Chuck's schedule and having , that was a little too much to ask for.. When we got home, it was about 10:30 or so and I took a nap.. Woke up at 1 and actually felt almost normal.. Just had a slight " buzzed " feeling... I even took for a walk to get the mail and could tell that I was a little weak and my balance was off a little bit but nothing I couldn't handle.. Later I started cleaning the house.. Of course, I was the one at the laundromat 3 days after was born too.. I don't do very well when someone tells me NOT to do something.. But I am careful not to do something that will cause me harm.. I figure, as long as I am able to do it, why not... And, I made sure I didn't drive or anything.. Today, my insides are a little tender and i have some slight nausea but my body has just been through something very traumatic too.. Is that normal? Other than that, I'm not having any problems at all.. So, that's the story.. I'm sorry this is so long.. I also found out what it means to " mourn your food " after surgery.. I went through something similar to this.. I hated the fact that I couldn't eat, especially when I made Chuck and dinner.. I wanted some so bad.. I wasn't even hungry but dang did it smell good... The more I thought about not being able to eat, the more depressed I got... Did anyone go through this before/after surgery? What did you do about it? I never realized how addicted to food I was until I couldn't have it... And the wrost part about it was that I KNEW I could eat in less than 24 hours!!! please tell me this will be different after surgery!!!! In my thoughts and prayers, Terri ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
