Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Well the broiled meatballs and beef patties lasted for one day. I tried giving him boiled chicken cut into chunks and he didn't want to have anything to do with that. He will keep his carrots on his plate but won't touch them. I did have him at least touch the carrots to his lips. So maybe by the end of the week hopefully they will make it into his mouth. Of the apple pancakes, I did get two good ones and he ate those with the orange honey sauce (I think both the recipes I used are from the scdrecipe.com website.) Can he have honey now? I don't want to sound like I'm being very restrictive but he doesn't have diarrhea regularly although he did Saturday after the pancakes so I don't know if it was the apple pancakes or the orange honey sauce. This time I am keeping a food/reaction diary. Last time (Nov 05) I was so excited about the nut flours and the protein he would be getting that I introduced them when he was actually having diarrhea so who knows what it was from. And I did not follow the intro diet so this time I'm sticking with it. I buttered my pan with margarine and my friend said that butter and margarine are not the same thing so I got the butter. I also made some pear pancakes and they turned out great I will see how they do. When I am looking for reactions (bowel kind) do they occur the same day or the next day? He's normally pretty hyper anyway if that's a reaction and he's not on anything as far as meds, vitamins, etc. My kids love bread and basically anything with associated with bread: crackers, pizza, cookies etc. so it's a bit of a challenge but my older son loves chicken and steak all the meat, no vegetables tho. He loves spaghetti so I can't wait to try the spaghetti squash. With my younger son I have to be creative. He does not have milk or cheese only by his own choice unless it's on pizza. Everyday he's had a waffle with sugar free syrup (not SCD) by Cary's from Wal-Mart and Cran-grape juice for breakfast. Lunch is a PBJ on wheat bread with pretzels and vanilla waffer cookies with peanut butter (the last two are my mother-in-law's idea while I was away.) Dinner usually pizza or chicken nuggets Tysons or the drive thru he does love french fries so I did make the butternut squash fries and he devoured then and did ok. And every night we have desert which was vanilla ice cream. Since we've started the diet I my older son will have an apple not cooked and my younger son wonders where the ice cream went. I'm waiting to make the fruit smoothies with bananas and strawberries, it's close enough to ice cream. I will try the pear and applesauce. We eat SCD with him so he sees it is a positive food change even if he wonders where all the other stuff went. Thanks, Sheila Trenholm sheilat@...> wrote: Hi , > How important is the broth? Guest guest
I know it's my fault with the fast foods. When we weaned him off of baby jar food he did ok eating but then a few months later he was extremely picky and if I didn't give him his food fast enough he wouldn't eat. So I started keeping frozen pizza, nuggets, fish sticks and we would make those in the toaster oven. We just got into the habit of making two separate meals if you would call his a meal. That was five years ago talk about a habit. Last night I made the spaghetti squash and I thought it was good, I've never had or made it before, with baked chicken. My older son wouldn't touch it until I threatened taking desert away, he actually ate three bites. The only thing my younger son ate were the squash french fries. Last summer I would bribe my younger son with chocolate pudding; for every bite of chicken, steak, burger whatever meat; he would get a bite of chocolate pudding. He would eat the whole piece of meat and the pudding was not sugar free. Anyway, I am adding bananas tonight. I talked to his teacher about his BMs and she said he has only gone once at school since coming back from Christmas break. That means he's been saving them for me and I can't remember them. I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I am a little more restrained this time 'round, but when can I add vitamins or supplements and do I need to take him to a doctor and what would you suggest? I've given him stuff in the past w/o a docs consent I'm even doing the diet w/o one but I was just curious. I don't think I've expressed how great I think this diet is. I think it's great I love to cook and try cooking new things or cooking things in different ways so it's a great challenge and finding healthy things for my kids to eat fruits and vegetables no less. It's wonderful and I don't think I even ate this healthy even when I was pregnant or even growing up. I know we are all doing the diet for different reasons but really for one main reason and that's our health and our children's health. God Bless. Thank you, carolfrilegh c.frilegh@...> wrote: > from. We eat SCD with him so he sees it is a positive food change even if he wonders where all the other stuff went. It sounds like there is a lot of fast food in your son's diet. Carol F. Guest guest
Hi , > Well the broiled meatballs and beef patties lasted for one day. A little honey should be fine. I don't want to sound like I'm being very restrictive but he doesn't have diarrhea regularly although he did Saturday after the pancakes so I don't know if it was the apple pancakes or the orange honey sauce. Did you use rind in the honey sauce? Is your honey pure and filtered (clear)? > When I am looking for reactions (bowel kind) do they occur the same day or the next day? It usually depends on the person and how soon they normally react. Some react immediately and for some it is delayed. Diarrhea is " usually " a same day reaction though. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, About the honey sauce, I used orange juice instead of orange and rind. But by saying that I have no idea if the reaction he got was from the apple or the orange juice since now I've decided to only add one new " food " every couple of days. I'm on the apples now, I've noticed the apple discussion and found it very interesting. He did great with the pears and tomorrow I'm adding bananas then carrots. I've been sneaking the fruits in the chicken muffin recipe from pecanbread.com. He will only eat them with a little honey. But I put enough apple and pears in there so he can hardly tell there's a chicken taste it's still there but at least he's eating it. When you asked about the honey I started to think mine was not SCD legal; it's Burleson's Pure Honey, U.S. Grade A Fancy. It doesn't list any ingredients on the label just nutrition facts and baking and cooking purposes. Being clear indicates that the pollen has been filtered out. Sheila, SCD 60 mos, 22 yrs UC mom of Em and Dan

Guest guest
Hi Sheila, First thank you for your replies. I have another question about vanilla extract; where do you find vanilla extract that does not contain sugar or corn syrup? I was out and borrowed my neighbors and I just happen to check the ingredients, I returned it with our SCD explanation so now I'm out again. Thanks, Sheila Trenholm sheilat@...> wrote: Hi , > When you asked about the honey I started to think mine was not SCD legal; it's Burleson's Pure Honey, U.S. Grade A Fancy. Guest guest
Hi , > I have another question about vanilla extract; where do you find vanilla extract that does not contain sugar or corn syrup? Some buy Frontier brand vanilla extract (Whole foods, I think). The ingredients should be only vanilla extracts and alcohol (and maybe water) I make my own vanilla with a number of vanilla beans ( I split the beans) in vodka. Guest guest
Okay. I have been hesitating to post this for fear that it has been asked and addressed a million times but... My son, Wesley (4 yo, PDD-NOS)only eats waffles and peanut butter and cereal. (haven't started SCD yet) He simply WILL NOT eat anything else no matter what I do. He is so strong willed! If I look at the intro diet: Homemade Chicken Soup (my son WILL NOT eat it...haven't tried yet but I KNOW he won't.) Hamburgers (he won't eat it) Cheesecake he MIGHT eat Jello he surprisingly didn't eat...I have made it recently He won't even drink the juice! Which surprised me because he drinks juice boxes at school...that seems to be getting a little better, though. Am I supposed to only serve him these foods and if he doesn't eat, then he'll just be hungry until he gives up and tries something on this list? Or should I begin with an SCD waffle recipe instead since he is more likely to eat that? Any help would be appreciated.
Guest guest
Forgot to add that he doesn't seem to have any constipation OR diarrhea, but does frequently complain that his tummy hurts. Before I'd heard of the probable gastrointestinal problems with autistics I thought his tummy hurting was because he was hungry since he didn't seem to eat ANYTHING! But now, I'm thinking it's something different. Thanks again for any help.
