Guest guest
I am better trying to understand the difference between IV and oral antibiotics. In the list of antibiotics that are most likely to cause c. difficile, does this list only involve oral antibiotics? Or is it the same for IV antibiotics as well. I remember reading on this list a while back that getting an IV antibiotic or shot would be safer, since it bipassed the gut. Is this true? I had a miscarriage 4 weeks ago, and had to go to the emergency room since I was bleeding excessively. They performed a D&C and gave me an IV antibiotic, which I accepted since I assumed it to be safe. However, I had what felt like a yeast reaction in my vagina and anus(red, itchy, sore) and now am having a potential flare-up of my Crohn's. It could also be related to the drop in hormones, but I looked up the antibiotic that was given, and it is right there in the " most likely to cause c. difficile " and now I am worrying. It's bad enough to go through the emotions of a miscarriage, but now I am anemic (from 14.2 to 10, and did I ever work hard to get to that number; iron shots over the course of a year) and now I'm suffering from loose stools, and mucus. And I've been on the diet for almost 2 and 1/2 years! So much for wanting a son! Thanks for any clarification in this, Debora Crohn's Disease 17 years SCD 2 years, 5 months (though the first year didn't really count, since I was living with a 14 inch stricture in my descending colon, and couldn't exactly starve out the bacteria) sulfasalazine GSE, lots of probiotics, intro diet (as of yesterday)
