Guest guest
Dear and All, Accutane has a truckload of side effects. The skin side effects are listed in my nursing 2002 drug handbook published by springhouse as: cheilosis, dry skin, rash, facial desquamation, peeling of palms and toes, petechiae, nail brittleness, thinning of hair, skin infection, photosensitivity, cheilitis, fragility, pruritus. I can only tell you what helped me. I do not have cheilosis or riboflavin deficiency. Last night i noticed a pustule on my upper lip (i get them on either side of the dip there above the lip and it accentuates the lip line which i like). I put my Herbal Ed's Salve by HerbPharm on my lips and went to bed. This morning it is gone. For my chin i take a garlic clove, cut it in half and dab the juice on the pustules (haven't had to do this in almost a year now)...done at bedtime the pustules are always gone in the morning. My youngest son had terrible acne. I bought some cotton bath mits with one side having a rough weave...these he used once to wash his face and tossed in the washer. He then applied basil juice to the pimples or to red areas still " incubating " . Cleared him right up...no accutane for my son. Also he had a ganglion cyst on his wrist for years. As an EMT now looking forward to paramedic and pararescue training he needed a pain free wrist. Surgery was being considered. I asked him to let me have a go at it first. I put a comfrey poultice on it uninterupted for 24 hours and guess what? Gone. Sorry bout the digression. Herbler.

Guest guest
Dear Moya, and all of you who emailed me off list, I purchase my herb pharm products from my local food co-op. Herbal Ed does have a web site which can be accessed with this link: http://www.myvitanet.com/vitanet/herpharcom.html Please! Remember that herbs are medicines too. Many of todays Rx compounds are derived from plants. Many herbs interact with Rx meds and it takes someone with knowkedge of herbs and face to face contact with you to devise a safe individualized plan. Please enlist the guidance of your local herbalist, native american shaman, naturopath, or allopath with herbal credentials. I know it seems silly but it isn't. A researcher at U of Chicago, Moss, MD, has identified a group of compounds (SGA's or solanaceous glycoalkaloids) in the nightshade family which inhibit two enzymes needed to breakdown anesthetics including paralytics. Think twice before eating that tomato or potato or smoking that ciggie! Over the edge? Maybe, but i once knew a woman going through menopause and the only thing she could eat without getting sick was a baked potato. This could be valuable info if she were to need surgery. Garlic is so intense that i cannot stand the odor right under my nose and also it is very hot when it reaches the tongue. My lips can be dry at times so i wanted something nourishing and moisturizing. My chin tends to be oily. I thought the salve might be a little too moisturizing although if my chin were very dry i would probably use herbal ed salve on both areas. Garlic is both antifungal and antibacterial. I don't know what to say about the increased flushing (i.e. what causes it and what to do). The longer i stayed on the " road back to digestive health eating pattern " the flushing became less and less. The topicals merely treated the symptoms on my skin...that is why the topicals need to change as the skin progresses or digresses. I just ordered some vitamin K cream to use topically. and i am still using grapeseed-almond oil in my moisturizer. This summer i am planning to stop using the comfrey and test the vitamin K cream. I will say one thing if you are using antiperspirant...stop. Use deodorant instead. Let you body get rid of heat naturally under the arms. Grapeseed extract helps vitamin c enter cells, strengthens cells and protects from oxidative damage. It helps protect collagen fibers, strengthen capillaries and can improve circulation. I have found grapeseed extract quite beneficial for my healing. Theoretically vitamin K sounds promising enough that i want to give it a shot. Though i am not recommending that you do so. Once more, i am not recommending any herbals to anyone. I am merely stating what i used and why it helped. Please seek guidance from your trusted health care specialist, K? Guest guest
If you are interested in checking out non-mainstream ideas, there was some discussion about pantothenic acid (B5) for acne treatment a while ago. Post # 34850 in the archives had a long article by a mega vitamin proponent. But I wondered if there might be some basis of fact that would mean that B5 (maybe not in such a large dose) might help some people. If you are a medical doctor and read the article I would be interested to hear your opinion. > Date: Sun, 24 Mar 2002 16:21:50 -0000 > > Subject: Sore pustules in corners of mouth, lips and chin! > > I am a 43 year old male that has had 4 courses of accutane for > persistant pustules of a severe nature.
