Dear Lyn,

We too have discovered in the last year of battling Celiac Disease, which is

malabsorption of the intestines, autism, ADHD, and so much more, we discovered

that we can not do dairy. It simply does not work in this house if we want to

be asymptomatic. Even Elains yogurt can not be used. We practice the SCD

without dairy (as you may remember she suggests in her autism chapter that some

of us can not have it) and are THRIVING! Sometimes I wonder if this is why so

many people on this site are still talking as if they have " injured " intestines

after complying to a strict SCD diet, yet allow " Legal " yogurt and " Legal "

cheese (although like us they have autistic problems). In fear of generalizing

I will not go there, but it can not help but make me wonder. We have not had to

use enzymes to digest our food since the first three months of healing. We are

fine now. BUT WE discovered that we can not do diary.

Like you, we too have had many food intolerance/allergies. Guess what, now that

our intestines are healing....they are DISAPPEARING too! Even my " cat allergy "

has disappeared! But just like Elaine says in her book " fanatical adherence "

has to be complied to, in order to get these results. If dairy is a problem in

light of what she says about starch, I believe for my family until we are healed

for over a year I will not add this or experiment with this type of protein.

Our GI specialist and research out there claims that the lectins in dairy are

also known to cause damage to the intestines of some of us! I hope that Elaine

is right that some day we may be able to allow it, but only after remission and

the " last symptom disappears for a entire year " ...like she says in her book.

For now we wait and heal, reap the benefits of the SCD....and get are calcium in

other ways.

Friends with something in common, Antoinette

SCD ABA Reinforcer ideas?

Hi All,

Thanks for all the previous advice and answers to my questions...

I was wondering about what SCDer's use as food reinforcers?

Cameron's showing quite the sensitivity to peanut butter, almonds and

coconut and we are currently avoiding dairy.

I'm pretty sure all his current reinforcers have been contributing to yeast

(green grapes, raisins and " honey candies " - almond rocca w/out the almond

and subbing coconut oil for the butter).

Any ideas/suggestions for other less sweet reinforcers for my sweet-toothed

little guy?

Lynn
