Guest guest
From 3rd Coast Herbal (): -=-=-==- Hi Marjorie - Thanks for the advice. Just for the record, & for anyone else that is considering niacinamide, the brand that I am taking is GNC, 100 mg tablets (the only thing I could find locally). I tried to split a pill in half to make a 750mg dose, but the tablet shatters. So, I take 400 mg 2x/day. I believe Twin Labs makes a niacinamide supplement (saw it at iHerb), but I will check into the Nature's Way. To make me feel better, I'll email them about this so I can cling to their spiel about how great they are ! (I'm so leery of getting such info from the manufacturer). I know you will post whatever you learn (if ever) about the nicomide, but at this point, do you know if the niacina/nicomide needs to be taken all at once to do anything? I'm not at all clear on what this is supposed to be doing to improve the situation (helping to heal capillaries?). I read & re-read the archives, but I don't recall much discussion on how this stuff works (& I know that the makers of nicomide don't offer much either). BTW - the only reason I can see for nicomide to be an RX is due to the dosage amount. For example, rx Motrin is what, 400 to 800 mg? Yet you can take 8 OTC ibuprofen for the same effect. I just checked the bottle, & 100mg of niacinamide is said to be 500% USRDA, so obviously a 750mg tablet of nicomide is a megadose (specifically, it's equal to 3750% USRDA). -=-=-==- From what I saw, the research done limits amounts of niacin or niacinamide to 1 gram at one time. But I don't know what the physiological limits are per dose, or if it's better to take a smaller dose several times a day rather than one large dose daily. Nicomide recommends one of its 750 mg pills twice a day; as you note, that's a huge dose of niacinamide.
