Guest guest
Hi does anyone happen to know what is best regarding nuts if you have leaky/inflammed intestines. On the SCD they say nut flour is ok, would that also be the case with soaked nuts through a vitamix. Or is it best to avoid both? Thanks Phil

If you start with the intro as the gut heals you should eventually be able to tolerate nut flour (pecan or blanched almond to start with). Elaine wasn't wild about soaking nuts. She felt it could result in contamination (bacteria, yeast..), that it was unnecessary if people gave their bodies a chnace to heal and that it was time consuming. There have been lengthy discussions on this topic. Guest guest
I have heard that cashew and peanuts cause an inflammatory response in those with auto-immune problems/arthritis/Celiac Disease and many other auto immune problems.... But they are in the legume family and not considered a true nut. Yet should not be eaten if have inflammatory problems or sensitivity or true allergy. Guest guest
I picked up a book last weekend at and Noble called Stop Inflammation NOW! The Phase one diet allows only flax seed and pumpkin seed. The phase two diet allows almonds and I can't remember if it allowed anything else. If I can find my book I'll post it. I am pretty sure it said, " no peanuts. Guest guest
Carol, I am holding my worn and torn book in hand here and see on page 79 that is says, " Do not use seeds of any kind until three months after the symptom has disappeared and then try them cautiously. " My comment about flax seeds and pumpkin seeds were intended to address the inflammation question posted by another member. I actually forgot that flax seeds are not allowed. Please forgive me. We are dealing with multiple food allergies and don't use nuts or seeds at all. I'm not attmepting to plug another book or promote anything other than SCD. I'm only here to learn how to help my children and become more informed on how to successfully carry out the SCD. Thanks, > > > > I picked up a book last weekend at and Noble called Stop > > Inflammation NOW! Guest guest
I do not believe this diet is addressing the true causes of inflammatinon. As a fellow inflammation sufferer, I have learned gut and immune system are one, and inflammation is tied into the immune system. To start anyone with this type of issue on seeds is ridiculous. Alot of people confuse healthy foods with diets. SCD is not saying flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds are not a part of a healthy diet. SCD is saying that since they are hard to digest, they will further prolong the time it takes to heal the digestive system, which further prolongs the healing of the immune system, which causes the cycle of inflammation to get worse. Some people obtain the benefits of the omega 3's and 6's from both flaxseed and pumpkin seed oil. These oils have been shown to reduce inflammatory response, and are SCD legal in this form. Flaxseed oil is available many places. My favorite source for harder to find pumpkin seed oil is www.mountainroseherbs.com Diabetes, heart disease and cancer are tied into inflammation, but inflammation is only a symptom. Diabetes is a symptom. Heart Disease is a symptom. Cancer is a symptom. Too much focus on symptomatic treatment, while losing the big picture of how the body works, will detract from healing the digestive/immune malfunction. SCD directly addresses this, and thus, addresses the symptoms as well. For chronic inflammation, getting tested for H. pylori, which is a causative agent of inflammation, because of immune malfunction, and staying away from nightshades and legumes is helpful. Almonds can be pretty difficult for many with chronic inflammation, especially if not consummed as a butter. This diet sounds gut wrenching.
