antiobiotics and multivitamins/minerals

You cannot take multivitamin/mineral tablets within 2 to 4 hours of

taking most ALL antibiotics because the minerals compete for the same

receptor sites as the antibiotics, which reduces antibiotic efficacy

by about 50% in some cases.

Most of you probably remember the old rule of note drinking milk or

chewing Tums at the same time as tetracycline. Same goes for all

these new antibiotics -- Zithromax, Cipro, etc. There are actually

very few antibiotics that don't follow this rule.

To view a list go to www.healthwell.com and type either calcium or

magnesium into the search box and then look for drug interactions.

Calcium and magnesium are the two minerals that compete with most

every antibiotic.

Holly, sorry for the slow reply but I'm still on Christmas holiday

away from home. But please know -- you aren't wrong and please don't

let that doctor make you feel inferior or wrong for asking questions!

He's the one who isn't up to speed on all this -- you were dead on

target for asking about taurine and magnesium and questioning ADEKS.

For him to tell you that your child gets all she needs from ADEKS and

food is criminal -- CF is a disease that causes malabsorption -- why

in the hell does he prescribe enzymes if malabsorption isn't a

problem? And if enzymes corrected the problem 100% of the time then

why are kids still taking such high doses AND experiencing fatty,

floating, foul smelling yellow poops?! This CAN be corrected by

adding taurine -- heck, yes it's an amino acid. The doctor needs to

go back and read his biology textbooks. Or print out the info from:

www.healthwell.com --- search taurine and magnesium.

I'll send you any medical abstracts you want later in the week once

I'm home if you want them.

Kim
