Good luck Karyn. Have you decided on a date as of yet for your trip to

Chicago?

I know a woman here in Cincinnati who's son had pancreas divisium and was so

ill with pancreatitis. The doctors here at Childrens Hospital removed almost

all of his pancreas and preformed the islet cell transplant. The doctors

decided to leave a small portion of pancreas behind inside of him. I spoke

to his mother a year ago and she told me that she regrets that her son didn't

have the whole organ romoved because she worries that he will develope

pancreas cancer from that small portion. This does give one something to

think about and makes one try with a very open mind to make the right choice.

After my surgery I was so relieved that I made Dr. Sutherland promise me to

remove my entire pancreas because he told me that my pancreas was an odd

color. The entire organ was an odd color. I was so relieved that I made the

choice to remove the whole pancreas. To this day I don't regret having the

whole organ removed. Now when I don't feel well or have pain in my liver I

don't think about my pancreas and cancer. Sounds bleak but that was and is

my experience. Good luck on your choices. I know that it is very hard.

Love, Shirley
