Guest guest
Eilish's Dr. rang today and said her sputum showed Hemophilus Influenza and Pneumonia. They did mention what type but I cant remember. He said that it was resistant to all but IV antibiotics. But after being on Rulide her cough has gone. He said to keep her on it for another 2 weeks then stop it and see if her cough returns. If it does then IV's again. What a year it's been. How dangerous is Pneumonia in Cf Kids? Guest guest
I am assuming shince you said her sputum showed pneumonia, that you mean a bacteria with the name pneumonia in it??? The main one I know about is strep pneumo, which Mallory cultured for awhile back. It was a very resistent strain, but from what I understand, strep pneumo is pretty resistent here in Tennessee. It is something that normal kids can get, and...I am sorry to say that I th ink that Mallory was the culprit for a number of kids in her preschool class coming down with strep pneumo infections that year. (and of course don't we always tell people that CF kids coughs aren't contagious....oops....at least those kids were out a few days and then back and not deathly ill or anything....) Actually, almost all of us in the family eventually got colonized with it and our non CFers were cultured by the ped and all had it, so the ped finally treated the whole family with oral meds...something unusual we never used since, but I can't remember the name of it. Odd thing was, that one of my non CF kids had an even more resistent strain than Mallory had..... hope this helps. let us know the name of the bacteria and maybe we can help more.
