It helps all of us to understand a little more about you and the reasons you arrived at this site. First of all, I wanted to say that not everyone has this constant pain and just because some do, it doesn't mean that you necessarily will. just posted that he hadn't had any pain in 28 days, I haven't had any in well over two weeks. I can often go two or three weeks at a time between episodes, and then only have a day or two of needing meds. If the doctors cannot diagnose chronic pancreatitis after all your most evident signs, I would be very surprised! Your initial symptoms sounded so similar to my complaints prior to my diagnosis, and I can certainly understand why you would want some definite answers. It is somehow easier to deal with a known condition than to be always questioning and searching for explaination for the unknown, if you understand my meaning. I don't know why the amylase level of 175 was not high enough for the ER nurse to suspect CP. Most labs say an amylase reading of 0-80 is considered normal, but even those that use a different system with higher readings usually say 160 is the cut off point for amylase being in the normal range. And a chest x-ray isn't really the most clearly defined diagnostic tool for pancreas problems. Hopefully your CT-scan today will show what's been happening in your pancreas since your surgery, and your doctor will have some more advice for you. Don't despair if you don't find out what you need, though, for many of our members it took a long time and several doctors before they could get a final determination and diagnosis. I hope your appointment today is more revealing. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina hhessgriffeth@...
