At this point you need information, unfortunately there is a lot of information. Fortunately only parts of it will likely apply to you. But you gotta read it to sort it out. Best wishes and good luck Poncho - GA P.S. if you have trouble finding it, the info, just post a question as to how to reach it on this board
Guest guest
Tyson, I'm shocked they didn't put you in the hospital with nothing by mouth and IV fluids. You need to see a GI doc with experience in pancreatitis. Hopefully you had just the one attack of acute pancreatitis, maybe caused by the diet med you were taking. If it was caused by the med, you might very well never have another attack. However, I'd definitely stay away from that med and others with a high risk of causing pancreatitis. Some of the others can help with what those meds are. My stepdad had one acute attack that they think was caused by HCTZ (a blood pressure med). It took him about 6-8 weeks to totally get over the attack but he has had no problems since then. Stay totally away from alcohol and stick with a low fat diet. I can't explain what lipase is other than to say it is a pancreas enzyme. I think the normal range is about 20 to 270, so yours was close to 10 times the normal limit. My small hospital can't do lipase in house they normally don't check it. They just check amylase, which is the other pancreas enzyme. When I had an attack while on a business trip in VA, my lipase was 1960. They admitted me to the hospital and said that it was a serious case of acute pancreatitis. I was put on IV fluids and allowed nothing by mouth for 2 days until after the level came down to normal. I was also given demerol and phenergan IV because the pain was severe. You may never have another attack but it's probably best to see a GI doc that has experience with pancreatitis. W Lipase level and what is it? Last Friday I was Diagnosed with Pancreatitis. I do not know my Amylase was but my Lipase was 2,113. I was placed on a clear fluid diet and 4 days later it was down to 733. Is this expected? is this abnormal? I have no idea what this means and what the levels are etc... I do not feel like I am getting a straight forward answer from my Doctor or anyone. I just want to know what am I in for. We still have no reason for this and I have been in for an ultraSound and a CT scan with no results yet. Still waiting for the final CT report. Being Pancreatic, will I gain or lose weight? It would not hurt me to lose weight. I wouldn't want to gain anymore thou. Thank you Tyson Mathews P.S. I have no understanding of what I have am have no idea what to expect, Should I be scared? I have a wife and 2 kids to worry about. I can't have them worring about me. everything I read on the net states " morality rate " and risky etc.... what can I expect. I am only 30 years old. Any support would be very greatful. I am just pulling for answers right now and trying to find a reason for this.
