Suzanne, The Intro Diet is only followed for a few days and then you have the options to add foods on your own gradually and in small amounts or be guided by The Stages timetable which is not an official SCD protocol. Elaine comments on page 71, edition 10 of BTVC. about adding foods. SHE ALSO COMMENTS ON READY MADE SCD PRODUCTS THERE. The Pecanbread timetable was based on input as to which foods parents found best tolerated and at which point. For some it becomes really complicated to comply to SCD, follow the timetable and also satisfy either a very hungry or very picky child. Add the low oxalyte food list for exclusion and you can really drive yourself batty figuring out what to feed the child. Whether you use the guide, or proceed on your own, make sure diaharrea is cleared up, keep a journal and add foods slowly, staringt with small quantities of a new food and writing down what transpires. Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, > We are beginning the intro diet today, and I need to know what to look > for to help me know when we can move to Stage 1. You should only be on the intro for a maximum of 5 days after that adding in peeled ,cooked fruits (& ripe banana) and peeled, cooked vegetables. If you can add them 1 at a time(maximum of 1 /day) you'll get a cearer idea if they are tolerated - if not tolerated stools will worsen. > Should we wait for > poops to become firm (they are mushy now)? What about gas - is this a > bad sign? No, you don't need to wait until stools firm before moving off the intro. > Any other tips about when I'll know to start adding foods? If symtoms now are only mushy stools - worsening stools, stomach aches will help point out foods not tolerated. Guest guest
So I don't need to wait for gas and mushy poops to clear up before introducing new foods? Suzanne
Guest guest
In the pecanbread Stages guide it says pearsauce and applesauce were okay at Stage 1. I hope so, cause otherwise my poor kid is only eating spinach and ostrich today and zucchini and beef tomorrow (we rotate). I hope this is the case? The timetable is based on suggestions from parents and is not required procedure on SCD. Please refer to pages 70 and 71 of edition 10 of BTVC to read Elaine's statements on this subject as well as her cautions about prepared foods advertised on web sites. Then do what makes you feel comfortable. I get very upset when people are too literal and too constrained because they feel they must follow The Stages. It is not an official part of SCD ..just a suggested guide for those who insist on detailed guidance. Carol F.
Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, Many people have found that homemade pearsauce and/or homemade applesauce are good choices to try after the intro diet. Ripe banana is another. I don't know if that is an option considering the allergies you are dealing with.
