Guest guest
Kim, Welcome and do I have good news for you. There are many of us that are nurses. I am sure you will have other suggestions but these are the 2 I suggest. Since you already have an appt. with your PCP and know her opinion of wls go in with all the information possible. Take your pt manual that you have downloaded along with some downloaded pt contacts. Do not ask your doctor for permission, tell her that you are committed to having this done and want to know if she will agree to follow you afterward. You have already made the decision to have it with ot without this doctor. Suggestion 2- Have a backup doctor. When I told a few friends (coworkers) that I was going to do this they put me in touch with others that had wls. For this part I didn't care what type they had (open RNY) I got the name of their PCP so I knew they would be supportive. Being in healthcare I'm sure you have plenty of contacts. I approached a doc at work and told him I was going to have this done and understood he had made referrals for this before. He went over pros and cons which I was well versed in, thanks to Dr. R, and said if I needed him just let him know. This made me feel better when I went to my PCP because I had a backup plan. To my surprize my PCP agreed, I was shaking when I left the office. Best of luck and I hope this helps you. Continue to get advise from these wise people they haven't let me done once. They are wonderful. Darlene Kim Godfrey wrote: > Hi. My name is Kim from Fla. This is my first post. Guest guest
I have one supportive PCP on my list from Florida and it is in Tampa. Guest guest
Kim, Well that is a distance, Claire who is on vacation is closer to you than I am, I'm in West Palm Beach, I think she is in Tampa, but there are lots of people on this list who are from Florida, who have had the surgery, keep asking and you will get an answer. Good luck, I had to fire my first doctor because he would not reccommed any surgery. Robynn

Guest guest
Sorry to hear that Kim. My friend just saw his Dr. this week. His Dr. told him if he had asked a few weeks ago, he would have said no. However, His Dr. said he just came back from a convention that talked about the great success of this procedure and Dr. R. ] I suggest you ask your Dr. to read this website, and ask him what was the last medical convention he has been to. I would say he is not up- to-dated. Good Luck, Joy > Hi. My name is Kim from Fla. This is my first post. Guest guest
Hello, My name is Charnel Baker, and I am from Clayton North Carolina. I have been observing the group for the last two weeks to see some of the discussion that goes on. I have submitted all of my information to Dr. R. and he has sent the insurance letter out, and I do not feel that I will have a problem getting approval. I am now looking for some insight to the best as well as the worst part of the MGB. I have read a lot of material, and my mother had WLS, it was very helpful for her. I was wondering if maybe those who feel there are things I should know that is not written in the manual about this surgery, would you please let me know what you think is most important. My BMI is 37, and I suffer from sarcoidosis, which is a lung disease. I fear if I don't have the surgery, I won't be here to see my children have children. Thank you for taking the time to read this and respond. Sincerely Charnel Baker Aetna U.S. Healthcare-Ins.
