Guest guest
Staple removers(special ones NOT the regular ones) are available. If you are going to take them out or your PCP is and does NOT have the removers ....ask DR R to write you an order for one to be taken home from the hospital with you ( If that is an acceptable thing to do at Durham)Or ask him to write you a prescription for one(I dont know if you need it) and order it or pick one up as soon as you can post op. The needle nose plier thing sounds DANGEROUS>you could break off the staple and leave a piece of the staple in the abdomen and it could possible puncture your abdomen and that is an awful thing to do to such nice*art work* DR R just worked very tediously on. The infection thing would be enough to scare me away. - In MiniGastricBypass (AT) e, " Robbins " wrote: > Hi, > When I took out my staples I used needle nose pliers and tweezers. > The first four came out pretty easy but the number five was > difficult. Guest guest
I agree with you , but I really didn't have an option. My PCP said he would not remove the staples that the surgeon had to do this and since I am 3 hours away with no transportation this wasn't an option. These are very strong staples, not the kind designed for office use, I couldn't even cut one with wire cutters (I wanted to test the strength before using the pliers for the infected one). I irrigated the site with peroxide and then applied Bactroban and a dressing. By morning it was healing nicely and the *art work* remained intact! If it helps any I am a Nursing student(and, no, the hospital where I do my clinicals would not let me have a staple remover, go figure...) I was not suggesting anyone doing home procedures, especially if there is any sign of infection, just make sure you do get the staple remover before leaving the hospital, I wish I had! MGB 5/15/00 all healed up, pink and pretty :-) > > > When you say you take out your on staples do you just pull them > out > > or do you > > > need something to do this? > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > Gail > > > Chapel Hill, NC > > > MGB 5/

Guest guest
, So happy to hear you are going to be a nurse!!! I did healthcare for 25 yrs if you count that I started at age 14 as a volunteer and worked as a Medical Assistant ,then a Pharmacy Tech while I was in nursing school. That was diluted peroxide you used right???? In MiniGastricBypass (AT) e, " Robbins " wrote: > I agree with you , but I really didn't have an option. Guest guest
Hi , I should have said perioxide solution; sorry! My hubby tried to talk me into using undiluted Isopropyl alcohol (I think it was payback for 12 years of PMS...LOL). I still do not advocate self administering of meds or staple removals!! lol Are you working as a RN now? I want to specialize in Cardiac Care; I just finished up clinicals on Med/Surg and loved it! I really love and care for my patients, I hope that doesn't change. I met some RNs who laughed at my enthusiasm and compassion; they said that'll change. Take care and keep in touch! Guest guest
, I am currently working as a real estate consultant in my dads company. I am planning to become a Pharm/biotech or medical sales rep soon. My dad is retiring...our business is primarily rehab and property management(our own holdings). I was working last a s a nurse Clinician in Cardiac Rehab doing stress testing also and rotation to Icu once a month to keep our CCRN credentials. Good luck in your journey. I NEVER lost enthusiasm for my patients. Many of them are my clients today I was however dismayed by the sloppy mismanagement of hospitals. Dont get me wrong...some of the " bean counters " are VERY dedicated. The problem is....nursing is a female dominated profession. Sure its a great paying job and you are saving lives, impacting futures and its above all very rewarding personally. The thing to think about is for the SAME education you can have off all the weekends and holidays and work " regular " hours like the majority of the rest of the world. I dont regret being a nurse but Being a teacher may have been something I would have stuck with " for life " . A school nurse...lol perhaps. I know if I had NOT become a nurse I would have felt unfufilled. I left after I was passed up by a new grad for a job that I had previously had in another department....all with outstanding recommendations........the Difference....I was pregant sad but true. It was a weekend only job and they knew I had enough time and resources to take the full 12 weeks allowed by Fed law. The rest of the ER staff was already miffed on that shift because they were doing once a month weekends and were just changed to every 3rd when someone left and a pregnant girl(me ) appled for the weekend only job./meaning 3 people would have to cover 24(12 hr night weekend ) shifts for me. YOu can figure out the rest of the story. Peroxide should be diluted or it can cause emboli if there is a possibility it can get inside the body. Also straight H2Os is something a plastic surgeon would SCREAM about if you put on a wound. It disrupts the new tissue being formed. ,.....n MiniGastricBypass (AT) e, " Robbins " wrote: > Hi , > I should have said perioxide solution; sorry!
