(unlurk) Same here! I purchased a wide brimmed straw hat from REI (for $10)

that is wonderful. Of course it doesn't have any fancy sunblock material on

it, but it works. The top has a wide weave that you can see through, for

great air circulation. My head does not get hot, and I live in the desert.

I push my bangs up into the top of the hat so that when I take the hat off,

my hair (shoulder length) looks somewhat normal. Baseball caps are fine when

I take my dog for a walk in the morning, before I have washed my hair. They

don't really offer good sun protection though, from the sides.
