Dear le ~

Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate what you are trying to say.

Trust me, the last thing I want to do is evoke panic among other people who

are awaiting MGB surgery. However, I thought the purpose of this list was to

provide information, encouragement and support for those of us who are

preparing for the surgery.

I am very familiar with the web site and would never consider taking such a

drastic step without obtaining as much information as possible. Although I'm

in the early stages of my journey, I have requested a copy of the MGB manual

for myself and my PCP. I am communicating with a number of contacts who have

had the procedure and also joined the MGB list.

Just last week I had a complete physical with my PCP and informed him of my

research regarding MGB surgery. I wrote him a letter in advance and provided

a copy of Dr. R's letter to your primary care physician. Now we are gathering

my medical records from several doctors so that I can submit all the

information that Dr. R. requires. At this point, I don't know want more I

could be doing.

Hearing about and the recent death really worked my nerves. I've only

been a member of the list for about three weeks and it seems like almost all

the postings are very positive. No one seems to mention the negatives. I

guess it just caught me by surprise. I was SO EXCITED about the surgery and

finally felt hopeful about changing my situation.

From a practical standpoint, you are absolutely right . . . there is always

serious risk whenever surgery is involved. However, sometimes it's hard to

tell your heart to just be calm when you think about what can happen. Bear

with me and know that I am striving to make an informed decision. Please keep

me in your thoughts and prayers.

Your MGB friend, Teilah
