Guest guest
One day an older gentleman was sitting at the bus stop waiting for his bus. A young man sat beside him on the bench. The old man looked at the younger man and said " hi Tommy " . The younger man was confused for a minute, then replied. " My name is not Tommy " . The older man said " well that's what your shirt says, are you wearing Tommy's shirt " ? " No the young man replied, this is my shirt " . " Well why does it have someone else's name on it " the elder asked? " Tommy is the guy that designed this shirt. " " Oh.....well why would you walk around with a shirt that has someone else's name on it? Is it an advertising gimmick....are you getting paid a lot of money? " The young man was beginning to get a little aggravated. " No I'm not getting paid! I paid alot of money for this shirt!! " Now the older gentleman really became confused. " Let me get this straight, your shirt says Tommy, but you aren't Tommy. He's the guy that made the shirt. You on the other hand, paid a lot of money for that shirt right? " " So every time you wear that shirt this Tommy gets free advertising....I'm still with you here....what I don't get, is what you get out of the deal...? " The young man opened his mouth to speak but could not think of a reply. The bus pulled up at that moment and the old man boarded. As it drove away, the young man remained on the bench. Soon a business man joined him. The young man looked over and said " hey Ralph " ........ Sorry, kind of off topic. Our local paper ran this story a few years ago and my teens were very unimpressed with the moral. I think it's kinda cute. Realistically speaking, kids will always find a reason to tease. If it's not your clothes, it will be your hair. If not your hair it will be your weight or something else not relevant to the person you actually are. The only action you can take (other that assaulting the offending monsters) is to teach your children that their value as people is not based on what people see on the outside. But what comes from within. Unfortunately, it takes a very strong self esteem to get through middle school and high school unscathed. Much luck with your crisis..... crisis managemnet > > Ok totally off the CF path, but my seven year old is having a teenage > crisis. Guest guest
I hear ya ! When was that age, kids use to ask her if she was pregnant (what the hell?? I'm not kidding, second graders) because she had the " cf potbelly " . It was either pregnant or fat. At the time she was underweight but the belly made her look that way. Poor kid and there wasn't a thing I could do. But I wanted you to know, that 's 18 now and made it through most all the way through school. She quit going her last semester of High School, not because of teasing, I really don't know what the deal was, but she has already taken the GED and is going to start college in January. Whew! just my 2 cents, love,
