Guest guest
My daughter would rummage through the cupboards screaming at the top of her lungs. She wanted french fries!! Cake!! Something. She managed to find a container of tic tacs in my husbands desk and ate the whole thing. Finally after a week or so, she calmed down a lot. Now she will eat things she hasnt eaten since she was a baby...she is picky how I cook her meat, picky about the baked goods, but she will eat just about any veggie or fruit I give her. Rather than the pathogens dictating what they need, her healing body is dictating. That first week I had to bribe her to eat chicken soup. Now she craves it. Hang in there. Our whole family is on this diet at home-there are not illegals there (my husband has non SCD business lunches, but he's not sick like the rest of us) I hope they will want to stay on it the rest of their life (well, I'd like to add back milk and eggs someday-both my daughters and I are intolerant...my 7 year old severely) Grain free, sugar free really is the most healthy way to eat. You're giving your child a great gift. Something. I only did that when I was pre-menstrual. Seriously, it is so amazing to see how behavior changes in these children who were in hysteria from craving disaccharide carbs in starchy foods. Most of us have observed such behavior at the start of SCD and found it truly alarming. You need to be very strong at the beginning until these episodes get few and far between. And an infraction can bring them back. hang in! Carol F.
Guest guest
Yes, it is truly alarming. But for me it really proved that it was needed and we pushed through. Things start to get better and better, you have a dip again, and progress begins again. Mel, my suggestion would be to forget the gf stuff. Offer him the basics. Don't go over the top trying to make all the SCD breads and muffins. Does he like bananas? Eggs? Chicken? Hamburgers? Jello (with purple grape juice it looks like the real stuff). The chicken pancakes are like biscuits when you ad more baking soda then they call for. Also, have you cleared the stuff out and showed him there isn't any more of " the " food? Guest guest
He likes bananas. I have tried the Knox Blox, but he didn't eat them even though they do taste just like jello. I didn't even think they needed any honey with the Welch's Grape Juice in them. I bought all kinds of candy molds...I'm hoping to make them into those shapes and maybe that will help (kinda like Gummies) I tried the chicken pancakes as written,...he tasted and almost threw it up. Eggs and hamburger he doesn't seem to like yet. I plan on going cold turkey this weekend...the reason I am waiting until then is so I can have a little more support from my husband and my parents. (And since he doesn't have school on Mondays, it'll be sorta like a three day weekend and then we can move on...theoretically) Well, that's the plan. Thanks for the help, guys. --Mel

Mel have you tried sliced banas dredged in coconut and frozenon a cookie sheet? They taste like Good Humors to me. Also try the fudge and nut butter recipe and dip them in that. DIVA " S FAB FUDGE 1 cup honey 1/8 cup water 1/2 teapoon vinegar 1-1/2 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup almond butter crushed pecans Bring honey and vinegar to a boil and simmer until it makes a soft ball in a glass of cold water. Remove from heat and stir in butter until melted. Set pan in cold water and beat until thick. Add nut butter and crushed nuts, Pour on to a well buttered metal pan and refrigherate until firm enough to shape into small balls. Place balls in paper candy cups and refrigerate. Remove to room temperature an hour before serving. Carol F. SCD 6 years, celiac
