Guest guest
We had negative blood work, negative DNA tests...my husband and I had positive Celiac Biopsies...the GF and GF CF diet gave relief, even cutting out all grain and dairy gave relief (but we where occasionally cheating with gluten free foods)...but nothing like the success we are having SCDiet! I wish I would have been open to this way of eating a year ago...it would have made things a lot easier...but as we all know....it isn't easy to give up everything.....This SDIET just baffled me back then...the BTVC book sadly ended up on my shelf.......thank God one of my little " gremlins " (one year olds) put it on the coffee table.....after I had said many prayers....since KiKI was not getting any better...and we thought I possibly had developed refractory sprue (celiac disease....but incurable/treatable....in other word you could die). Review the chapter on the " Celiac Story " in BTVC...it pretty much explains whey the Gluten free diet doesn't work! To be honest...I sometimes wonder why they even prescribe it. I belong to the Celiac Sprue Association...so many not doing well on the GF diet! Yet so many of them...think we are nuts for eating this restricted...I guess you have to " hit bottom " to do this with the " fanatical adherence " that Elaine speaks of in her book...BOY DID WE HIT BOTTOM...I am grateful as a family...seeing KIKI get so sick was only part of it.....something strange happens when you have three children...all being made sick by food.....especially when you discover that food was the cause of all your problems...like I have (suffered miserably for 37 years misdiagnosed). In the last 29 days I have gained weight instead of loosing! AMEN! Antoinette (SCD day 29 entire family/Celiac (again the GF diet gave relief...but that is all)_...DH, ADHD, ADD, ASD and much more!) Re: stool tests was: recommended tests/GFCF diet not working I hope I haven't missed the answer to this - I have a hard time keeping up with the digests. Don't you have to be actively ingesting wheat to show up with the gluten sensitivity? This was how my tests were. The doc said the blood test should register since I had only been GF for 6 months. But it didn't register. Then he made me eat wheat for a month before the biopsy - I'm not sure I did a good job - it hurt too much. And my biopsy was inconclusive. But I definetly now have the dermatitis if I eat wheat by accident (prior to SCD), so I definetly have celiac. And we've always kept my daughter away from wheat, based on her other intolerances - dairy, soy, egg and our STRONG family history of celiac and IBS. But I would love to have a test that would work without putting her on Gluten so that the DIL's would belief that this is for life. :-) Not complaining, just that its hard for people to understand if they don't have gut problems or don't pay attention to them. Thanks for any info. Colby, celiac scd - self, daughter 2 1/2 weeks, dh -trying to be compliant - its a journey and I'm proud of him for trying so hard For information on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, please read the book _Breaking the Vicious Cycle_ by Elaine Gottschall and read the following websites: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.infohttp://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/\ > and http://www.pecanbread.comhttp://www.pecanbread.com/>
