Hi gang: An update on my homemade makeup - you dont even need

glycerin-especially if you have normal to oily skin. You can just

mix a bit of the powder with 3 or 4 drops of water and spread over

the face. It looks and feels great. So, use water with a drop of

glycerin for really dry skin, and just water for normal to oily skin.

I have re-posted the adjusted recipe below in case anyone wants to

try it.

You need:

1 [level] tablespoon Titanium Dioxide

1/4 [rounded] tsp Brown Iron oxide

1/4 [rounded] tsp Orange Iron oxide

1/4 [rounded] tsp Yellow Iron oxide

Water

Very Dry Skin: Glycerin (health food stores)

You can get the titanium dioxide and iron oxides at WWW.pvsoap.com,

or there are other websites that have them, too if you do a search.

Put a level tablespoon of titanium dioxide in a small dish. Add 1/4

rounded teaspoon each of brown, orange, and yellow iron oxide

pigments. Mix them around well and sift through a fine sifter. You

want it to look about a shade darker than a powder you would pick at

the store. Then take a pinch of the powder and mix a few drops of

water with it until it's the consistency of liquid foundation. (If

you have really dry, flaky skin you may want to use a tiny drop of

glycerin with it, but not too much or it will look shiny.) Ta Da!

You have homemade matte foundation/sun protection!! If too dark or

too light adjust the amounts a bit to get the right color. But be

careful, a little of the iron oxides go a long way. Most of the

powder should be titanium dioxide. You could order Zinc Oxide and

try adding that to the powder in place of some of the titanium

dioxide since it's good for rosacea skin. I have not tried that yet.

Do not mix all the powder and water together to store. Just keep the

powder dry and mix water with some of it as you use. This way you

dont need any preservatives.

PS.

I am having an incredible amount of fun with this and am incredibly

pleased. I am certain that the sunscreen products (even the gentle

ones) I was using before were causing me to have low grade

inflammation and I did not realize it until I started using just my

gentle facewash, noritate and homemade makeup/sunscreen that has just

a few ingredients in it. My skin is not nearly as sensitive as it was

before and feels/looks good. If you think about it, I have cut out

about 80% of the ingredients I was using before by switching from

storebought products to this simple homemade one that has only a few

inert & protective ingredients. Less ingredients, less chance of a

reaction. As we have discussed, less IS more :) Even the mineral

foundations that have so few ingredients still contain mica and

bismuth oxychloride which can be pore-clogging(mica) and cause itching

(bismuth oxychloride). This is what happened to me and several

others who emailed me that tried them. That's mainly why I decided

to make my own.
