I don't think that age should be your main concern. Quality of life

issues are more important! I am trying to get my insurance to approve

my 19 yr olds wls. Quality of life!

I can relate to everything you said. I am 23 years old and have been on and

off of diets since grade school. Go for it! I don't think anyone is TOO

young. Aren't you glad you found out about this surgery now and not 10 or

20 years from now? Think about those 10 or 20 years and how much happier

they will be! Thats what I have to think about. E-mail me at

jamus76@... if you want to talk more!

Hell No!  You are not too young.  I was obese since I was 7 years old

and I wish this had been around when I was your age.  I lived my entire

life as a dress rehearsal for " when I got thin " and I never got thin.  I

truly believe as do many of us that we have a faulty valve somewhere

that does not send a signal to the brain that we are satisfied....thus

we eat, hungry or not...to the point of obsession.

If you've tried it all...and I had by the age of 20...in fact at 20 I

was taking amphatemines which I got from a Dr. legally and then taking

downers to sleep at night in order to lose weight. At 22, I got married

at 232 pounds.  My whole life began to revolve around eating to feel

satisfied then beating myself up for having eaten and planning to start

another diet on Monday (because everyone know you cannot start a diet on

any day but Monday, it's illegal to do so).

You go girl!  Do it now! Don' t have a half life like I did. I had a

great career, made good money, had " it all " or so it seemed. But inside

I've always been a fat little girl from Dunellen, New Jersey who only

wanted to look " normal " .  So here I am at 57.

Tonight I went out for dinner with a group of friends. They asked me to

see a picture of what I looked like when I was younger (they meant

thinner) so they could see what I would be built like. I couldn't show

them one. I have never been a normal weight person and I have no idea

what body shape lies under this flab.  It will be a revelation to me!

You have my hugs and my support! I'm so happy to see young people here

and getting ready to do this so that they don't live their lives waiting

for life to begin " when I get thin " .

Hi Sweetie!

You go for it! My 16-yr-old daughter, was also born overweight, with

layers of cellulite all over her body (later we found out that her birth

mother, at 5' weighed over 300#). It is so unfair to not even be given a

chance! You and have something else in common, she has studied voice

for 6 years now. Her teacher sings with the Chicago Lyric Opera and is very

large herself, but you are right about the business in general--except for

opera singers, you need to be thin to " make it. " Another area of prejudice

against the overweight.....

Elementary kids are just as bad! Now when you get skinny, you'll have to

worry about those testosterone-laden boys hitting on you!! LOL

Yeah, these kids are a trip!!! A few weeks before school was out I was

walking

upstairs (not easy when you are fat either) and a boy was behind me and made

some

remark about " my big booty " and I just turned around and in my most pleasant

voice said, Well, thank you for noticing " - I thought he was going to fall

down

the stairs!!! What a hoot!!! Joanne/Ohio
