Guest guest
Well, I'm home from round 7 in the hospital since July! Wednesday evening the pain and nausea got worse again, so I went to the ER. My amylase was slightly elevated so they kept me. By the next morning the amylase was back down to normal but they kept me an extra day to be sure. One of the things that is puzzling me about these episodes I've been having is that even when the panc enzymes are elevated they go back to normal very quickly when I have nothing by mouth. Most times, they are back to normal by the next day or at least by the day after that. Also, I can have the exact same pain and have the panc enzymes totally normal. Actually, the times the panc enzymes were elevated have not been during times of the very worst episodes as far and pain and nausea goes. It's all very frustrating. I'm scheduled to see the biliary surgeon on Oct 21st. That's only a little over two weeks. Maybe I can stay away from the hospital til then. I do have to say that having the PICC line sure did make the hospital visit more pleasant. I didn't get stuck a single time! Also, I never even felt the tiniest burn from the IV demerol/phenergan. When they put the PICC line in, they told me it probably wouldn't burn because it is in a deep vein. It was really wonderful not to have to worry about the IV infiltrating or being stuck several times to have them draw blood. I am doing better now but am still weak. I haven't eaten anything except graham crackers so I guess I'll just have to see how it goes with food. Hope everyone is doing well. W.
