Guest guest
Hi all; my story is this, I was a brittle diabetic, and not responding to insulin. I tried every diet known to mankind and womenkind. I even went to the Duke Fat Farm, lost twenty pounds ( I figure it cost about a thousand a pound), then regained it after I " coded " on meds. Finally a doctor at Duke Diet and Fitness told me about Dr. Rutledge, because I was in danger of at least a stroke. So we researched extensively, and found about about RR and the MGB. I wanted it done immediately, because I couldn't wait to quit taking 7 shots a day. At first, my family was not supportive--my husband, my sister, and my brother are doctors; but I told them I was determined to live every day to the fullest (I've never done anything in moderation), so I threatened them, and they reluctantly signed a support letter. When I finally came up for the surgery, I was really, really, really scared, and said every prayer I knew while waiting for the surgery. I even had a list of people I wanted to come to my funeral, and songs to sing. Southerners are big on funerals. When I awoke from the surgery, I FELT GREAT. That night, I knew I had surgery, and used the pain pump. That's where the story gets yucky. Problems with nursing staff. When Dr. Rutledge finally came in the third day and released me, Hurrican Floyd hit North Carolina!! We stayed 7 weeks, because I still wanted to be sure my diabetes was gone. I did stay on liquids, and still am on a lot of soups. I can eat about anything, but don't really need to. I can taste creme brulee, but won't eat three. My kids actually want to be seen with me. My husband, the critic, wants RR to be nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine - really. Anyway, that is my long story. If anyone wants to call me my phone number is . Guest guest
Hi, Rexanne!Sorry we couldn't talk last night. I was sleeping like a baby!! I've been trying to search out older women who had the MGB as I " m 50 (in 2 weeks) and I assume that it would be rougher on more mature ladies...Will you or anyone help me with these questions? 1. What was your length of stay in the Hospital? 2.How was your pain on a scale of 1 to 10 on the day AFTERsURGERY? 3. What was your BMI and weight at time of surgery and How Much Have you lost & what time frame? 4. Have your co-morbidities been cured? 5. How do you get all your protein in your daily diet? 6. If you could give one bit of advise, What would it be? Thank you all for all your help. Guest guest
Hi Jane. I haven't had the surgery yet - just got insurance approval and am working on my last steps but I am 55 so I thought I would write. It might be slightly harder on us - any surgery is but we usually have more co-morbidities and so see, in some respects, greater improvement after. I hope to cure my diabetes and high blood pressure!!! Good luck and keep writing. Joanne in Ohio JANEWOJO@... wrote: > Hi, Rexanne!Sorry we couldn't talk last night. Guest guest
Flo, I know you wrote to someone else with answers regarding the surgery, however, I was wondering if I could use that same information as one of my contacts. I sent out and e-mail earlier this month and have 4 more contacts to go. I am scheduled for surgery on July 20th. Thanks so much, Oh! I really enjoy your posts. My email address is Rahango@... Guest guest
Dear LeighAnn, Hi, I read your post this morning. My name is Susie and I will have my MGB on July 12th.Less than 2 weeks away. Yikes!!! but I am very excited and hopeful. My starting weight is exactly where you started. I have been having an eating orgie , this has got to stop! I have that wonderful sweet tooth I hope Dr R pulls that sucker while I am under his anesthetic spell. LOL Your weight loss is fabulous! Geez 77 lbs in 31/2 mos I can't believe it. It must be so great waking up every morning knowing that your free of the food fight. I hope that my head understands what my insides have gone thru. It's scary to think that my mind may not get it, I sure hope it does! I read that R said that everyone thinks that they will be his first failure. I guess it's only natural. I am sorry that your husband chooses to be verbally abusive. Has that always been the case or is he just getting worried that your getting thin and gorgeous and is afraid you will leave him? If you love him reassure him that your not planning on leaving him but do tell him that his abuse has to stop or your out of there. He stayed with you because he needed you not because he was being a nice guy even though you were heavy, just remember that! He is lucky to have you. My husband Marty died in Dec. We would have been married 21 years on the 12th of July. That's why I chose that date for my surgery. I adored him but I will say that my weight was not easy for him to accept. He was a designer and manufacturer of ladies sensual lingerie. You can imagine the gorgeous thin models that he was always around. I was 140 lbs when I married him, then I got pregnant with twins and gained 120 lbs and so it began. My children are now almost 20 and they are the light of my life. Do you have children? Ok I have said enough for today. Keep your chin up and your weight down. I wish I was where you are now.
