Guest guest
Hello Everyone, This is Sandy from VA checking back in from " the other side " . My MGB was on Monday, 5/29, a very Memorial Day. I was the last scheduled patient of the day. I am back home and doing pretty well. I still have a lot of gas in my upper abdominal area, but that seems to get better each day. Many thanks to those who came by my room the evening of 5/29. I will have to admit that I had so much " goofy juice " that I remember people coming in, but cannot remember names. I do remember seeing Trish and Janet on 5/30. I was Dr. R's last patient to leave on 5/30. The pain was manageable, but I was afraid to use the pump too much because I only had nausea a little right after I woke up. They gave me something for it, and I didn't experience it anymore. I am walking a bit slower than usual, but I think that will pass shortly. I did get to meet le and she is a great girl. I went looking for her on the day after my surgery, but she had already flown the coop. Thanks to all of those who kept Dr. R and me in their prayers. I was the last surgery and just as I was thinking, " What am I doing here? " someone came to get me and I don't remember anything after being wheeled into the OR. I don't even remember seeing Dr. R at all until the next morning. I felt that I was only out for a minute or two. My husband really appreciated that they didn't leave him hanging wondering what would happen. He was told exactly where to sit and about how long it would be before Dr. R would come and talk to him. He was told what room I would be taken to. He really liked that they were helpful to him, because he was there alone. He also liked Dr. R, and said he was exactly the way I described him. I am getting used to the new way of eating right now. The first night after surgery, I only sipped about 3 sips of apple juice and ate ice chips. The next day, I ate about half the jello and about half the broth, though it took a few hours to do this. Later I ate more jello and more broth. That night, my husband wanted to go to Golden Corral (kill me now, I thought) but I explained to the lady taking orders that I just wanted about half a cup of soup and she said she couldn't sell it to me like that but my husband could get some for me since he was eating from the bar. She understood I had just had surgery and was very accommodating. So , my husband, brought me half a cup of chicken noodle soup w/o noodles. It was very salty, but seemed to hit the spot. Later, I had a little apple juice before bed. Today, I have not really been hungry, but it was a long time since apple juice this morning until I got home, so I got my son to get me some jello (sugar free) and that helped. For supper tonight, I opened a can of chicken and rice soup and had the broth with very little rice in it. The broth seems to help tremendously. Well, that's all for today. I'm off of work for the next 4 days, so I am going to take it easy. Guest guest
Hi le, I really enjoyed meeting you on the morning of our surgeries. I tried to locate you but Jeff said you'd already gone when I went for my second walk of the morning. You probably wouldn't have wanted company on my first walk, because it was about 11:30 at night. Please keep in touch when you get home. I had nausea right after surgery, but only this ghastly gas pain since. Looking forward to hearing from you!!
