Guest guest
Susie, It has to be less than 30 days old. I like to have my blood drawn a couple of weeks before my physical so my PCP just gave me the paperwork to hold onto for more bloodwork so I could have the results to coincide with my surgery. It worked out well. My EKG was actually about one month and one week old but Durham took it. The only other thing I would have done differently is to have DEMANDED that an experienced anethesiologist put in my IV. Some sweet girl named Ann or something like that put mine in under the supervision of Kip who is the assistant of the anethesiologist Dr.P from India. I felt like I was practice for Ann....as soon as the meds started going in she said " Wow look at that!!!!! " and Kip said " almost looks like an air bubble. " Well that got my attention ( Dr. P was keeping me preoccupied with small talk) I turned my head around and said " what are you talking about " and they said you could see my vein change colors as the meds went in. At that point I started itching and Ann was scratching my IV site because I was having an allergic reaction and the next thing I knew I was in my room after surgery. I did end up with quite a bit of bruising but I expected it from the allergic reaction. Also if you happen to have any allergies to Morphine or Demerol the hospital did not have any other pain meds to put in my IV. I had to swallow hugh horse pills and that was not easy to do with my newly reconstructed tummy. Thank God the pain wasn't bad enough to need pain meds. I don't want to scare you but I wish I had known before hand how many MGBers had problems with their IV sites. I think I would have been more inquisitive about the person putting mine in. All in all the surgery experience was not bad. Very little pain after the first couple of hours and no nausea for me. My surgery took 40 minutes and according to Dr.R all my organs looked good which made me feel very good. I also had an allergic reaction to the tape. I received a lot of Benedrel while in the hospital and that made me very sleepy. But you know what...I'm happy I went through with the MGB because it is the most positive thing I have ever done for myself in a very long time. I'm praying for you and all the others waiting in the wings. You have a new life waiting for you. Best Wishes, Genz MGB 5-31-00 249/229 " Susie G.
