I hope to get through on the phone tonight maybe Cassie and Jackie can

talk a few minutes. Cassie to is a pacer when she's in the hospital. the

line we always get it she sure doesn't act sick if she's up walking around.

I do have a questioin though. At what point are you ask for meds in relation

to her last dose. I have found here if she waits till its time to request

meds or she goes beyond the time for next dose, she ends up waiting for at

least and 1 1/2 hours before she gets her meds. Her pcp told me that every

time she has to wait beyond normal dosage time it takes longer and there is a

greater chance of no pain releif .I generally have her ask 1 to 1 1/2 hours

before she's due that way they have plenty of time for the pharmacy to bring

it up to the ward. Hope this helps. I hope to be speaking to you latter,

give Jackie a big hug from all of us and god bless you all.

Also, they won't give her phenagran the are using reglan (sp?) cuz of

her liver tests being high. Jackie liked the phenagran with the

demerol cuz she could relax with the two. I am hoping the fentanal

patch works soon. Thanks

Just a suggestion here. Could it be that the Reglan is what is

making Jackie so antsy and having to walk and pace instead of

lying down as the nurse wants her to? After hearing 's

story of how it affected her just this week, and your explanation of

Jackie's behavior in the hospital, it may be that she is having a

nervous reaction to the med and this may be what is causing her

to pace and not be able to rest. One of it's side effects is

excessive restlessness. Maybe you could consult the doctors

about this and see what they think. Don't let those nurses get

you down, tell them to kindly " butt out " ! If this is what Jackie

needs to do to keep herself from getting hysterical and crying,

then she should be able to do it without a lot of people interfering

and trying to upset her more.

I am so sorry for all of Jackie's troubles! I know you must be

worried, tired and scared for her, and that you will be by her side

almost all the time, so I hope you get this message when it can

do some good. Please tell her that her friends here are praying

for her, and that she will get through this soon. Prayers, to you,

, and the rest of the family who are standing by.

Please let us know how she's doing.

With hope and prayers,

sorry Jackie is doing so poorly. My docs sometimes order demerol 50 mg IV every

two hours when the pain is really bad. Demerol sometimes doesn't last 4 hours

when it's bad pain. As for the walking, maybe some of the meds are making her

really ancy. Ask the docs if they'd consider something for her nerves. Also, a

sleeping pill might not hurt to help her get a few hours rest each night.

YOu are all in my prayers.

Jackie in hospital...

Hey all,

I need a laptop computer, I hate being without my internet. Anyways,

Jackie has been in the hospital since Tues. Her enzymes, liver

profiles, and triglycerides (sp?) were elevated. Wednesday the

lipase were even higher, after being only on iv and iv pain meds.

Nothing is touching her pain, she has had shots of nubain (sp?),

toradol (sp?), demerol, morphine. Nothing helping, today they put a

fentanal (sp?) patch on her, at about noon. I wish I knew how long

it would take to work. Been a little over 3 hours and she says still

no pain relief. She gets 50 mg of demerol every 4 hours. She sits

and walks, she does not sleep, maybe four 15 minute naps since she

has been in the hospital. I have not slept either so I am sorry if I

make no sense in this note. Well my husband just called from the

hospital. I have been gone about 3 hours and JAckie has walked

almost the whole time. The only way she will not cry and be

histerical is to be walking. When her battery on her IV goes, she

paces back and forth in the room till we can unplug and go walking

the halls again, and this is all night. The nurses, some of them,

are actually hateful about it, one said if you would just lay down

and let the medicine work. Has any of you heard this before? She

was very abrupt about it. Then they say be careful, in which I am,

because she is on all this medicine. But they say it kinda rude. I

may be just a little on the ill side myself and taking things

personally. I would appreciate ya'lls input but I do not know when I

will be home. I am hoping she will be out of there in a couple days

but who knows. I have really never seen her like this. I don't have

the address to the hospital but the number to her room is

I guess this could be normal for the pain not to be helped but I am

not use to her just wanting to walk and walk...she usually wants to

lay very still. I will try to come home and check my email in a day

or two...I have met two people with pancreatitis at the hospital and

I know why Jackie paces, I do it myself when the pain is

unrelieved. It makes me jittery, restless and the only way I

can keep from crying pitifully is to pace. So tell Jackie

I'm there with her in spirit. Have they tried increasing the

dosage amount of demerol or giving the shot to her sooner? I

used to get them every 4 hours and only 75mg (max), but now

they give me 100mg every 2- 3 hours. And sometimes even that

isn't enough. I'm not very knowledgeable about all the

narcotics, but I know the fentanyl takes quite a while to

get into the body because it's under the skin. Once in the

system, it levels out and gives the medicine in a steady

stream for a 72 hour period. I hope Jackie gets some pain

relief and some sleep soon. You too need to rest. Give

Jackie many hugs from me and that I'm thinking of her and

hoping the pain reduces soon.

I agree with Heidi, maybe it is the meds making her anxious. Reglan

had that effect on me, I couldnt' keep still. I am so sorry she is

having these problems, The Fentanyl patches work well--but they take

at least 6 hrs before you can really tell a difference. If she is

allergic to tape though, it may make her itch. I always do, so I have

to take something to combat the itching. I'm keeping you in my

thoughts and prayers.

The reglan is Jackie's problem!!!!!!!! You must have missed my posts on my

hospital visit to hell Friday. They kept me just overnight. I was given

reglan 10 mg iv two times. first time, I was a little ansy for an hour. The

next time I was given it, I thought I was gonna go out of my mind!

Read this and ask Jackie if this is how she is feeling

It was HORRIBLE. I was in pain but could not be still!

from healthsquare.com

In addition, Reglan may cause symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's disease,

such as slow movements, rigidity, tremor, or a mask-like facial appearance.

Especially in older people, Reglan may produce tardive dyskinesia, a syndrome of

jerky or writhing involuntary movements, particularly of the tongue, face,

mouth, or jaw. In children and adults under 30, Reglan may cause involuntary

movements of the arms and legs, and sometimes loud or labored breathing, usually

in the first day or two of treatment.

Reglan may cause intense restlessness with associated symptoms such as anxiety,

agitation, foot-tapping, pacing, inability to sit still, jitteriness, and

insomnia. These symptoms may disappear as your body gets used to Reglan, or if

your dosage is reduced.

Make them stop the REGLAN. Mind you, I took reglan orally 5 mg three times a

day with no problem at all for over a year. It was the higher dose and IV that

did it to me. From now on, I'm telling them I'm allergic to it.

Get them to try Zofran if they won't allow the phenergan! I'm going to look for

your post with the phone number and try to call!

My wife is allergic to Demerol, and has uncontrollably body movement

when she gets it.

Something else; for those on Ultram, it will cause you to have

seizures! Beware Ultram. My wife was on it for awhile, and her

doctor had to put her on Keppra to stop the seizures. When her

endocrinologist had them take away the Ultram, the seizures stopped.

Demerol and Ultram suck.

Try Tylenol #4, believe it or not has worked best of all for her pain.

Just a thought.
