Guest guest
Hi there. Anyone know what would cause high heartrate in a CF kid? At Mallory's CF appt last week, her heartrate (by pulseox) was 141. The doc reviewed about the last yr or so and her heartrate was always over 120. (she is 5) 's heartrate was 66 and ph's was 80, so a heartrate that high isn't really normal for a 5 year old. The doctor did seem concerned about it as he reviewed the chart and sent her for an EKG. Her heartrate on the EKG was 121. The EKG itself was normal even though that isn't a normal heartrate for her age. She wasn't crying, or excited or anything like that, nor was she at any other appt. she likes going to clinic because she is rather a favorite among the nurses and she loves them and theylove her. and the ekg she was even lying down resting but not upset at all. Of course a number of possiblities are being thrown around, some of them I don't even knowwhat they mean, though ron apparently understands some of what the doc said. But since I am in Florida I just have to take Ron's word for that. Of course more tests are planned or whatever but ron said the doc wants first to do a little planning to be sure that we do whatever tests before she sees a cardiologist kind of to have our ducks in a row and not be running around in circles, or that is what Ron said, anyway. I think he also said something about a autonomic process or something like that. Or hyperthyroid but Mallory does not have any other symptoms of that. Otherwise Mallory is now healthier than ever, but we would like to know, as the doc would, why this anomoly....so if anyone has any ideas, I would surely appreciate it. ph and are also doing well, by the way.....and as luck would have it, Lori when you come to TN I just would have to be in Florida....talk about odd odds...... Take care all Jen Mommy of 7, 3 with CF ages 3, 5, and
Guest guest
Just wanted to add something here, although it probably doesn't explain Mallory's heartrate. When you have a fever, for every degree over 100, your heart rate will be about 10 beats higher than normal. I learned this when had a rare fever. Pediatrician confirmed it. I have never known it and I was in a panic. Once the fever went down, so did the rate. Sorry, though, Jen, this really doesn't answer your question. Lenora >Hi there.
