Guest guest
Karyn, I got the book yesterday, Thanks! I intend to read it throughly and help me fill out my forms (as I assume there will be many). First I need to confirm which doctor is pulling me out of work. Without that I can't really file for Social Security. As soon as that's finalized, I'll call Jim. I have my last dr. appt on Jan. 3 so a few days won't make much difference. I have a feeling it will end up being the pain management doctor who pulls me out as the problem is mainly the pain meds. Or I may be lucky and get my GI to agree to do it. Since I didn't have a clue as to how the process worked, I found them very helpful. I am sure you will do well because you share those little OCD behaviors that are needed to get organized. Jim has shared that the earlier someone contacts him, the better. He is able to do some mental preparation. That worked well for me. In my case, I had already hired an attorney who hadn't done anything--literally. I wanted to switch but was scared of some imaginary repercussions. I ended up talking to him briefly on the phone when I called for information--unexpectedly. I was hesitant to give him any information because I was afraid he would contact the other attorney, my doctors, SSI. I had really decided to do all the preparation and work up my case and then call him. He was so helpful. He helped me word a letter to my previous attorney. He said he would do a mental evaluation. He promised he wouldn't do anything until he heard from me again. During that time, he had time to budget his time, to ensure that I could get as expedient serviced as possible. It also turned out that he was familiar with different states, procedures, common hang ups, and even particular judges (who was willing to work out approvals on paper and not require a court date). My disability is due to Chronic Pain and Depression. I am dedicated to successfully having the diagnosis of Chronic Pancreatitis added to the listing of impairments, so in the future, persons with CP can get disability due to the actual disease instead of flirting with symptoms of the disease. This is where it is important that I have names, numbers, and locations of persons with Pancreatitis. We'll be integrating an on line petition to take to congress in the spring term.
