Guest guest
My son, age 15 has pancreatitis attacks about once a month or so. We have spent more days than we can even count in the hospital. We just started home health care. It is wonderful!!! When he starts having an attack, we get him to his doctor or ER to do bloodwork and examine him to make sure nothing else is going on. Then, they contact the home health care nurses and they meet us at our house. They start the IV's and give him his pain meds. There is a nurse on call 24-7. If he needs more pain meds, they come back and give it. If he blows an IV, they come replace it. One night we had trouble with the IV pump. It wouldn't stop beeping so I called and the nurse walked me through fixing it. Then, they return in the morning to draw blood and we head back to the doc's office for another exam. My son is so excited. We were way more comfortable at home and he even got up and chatted on the internet a little bit which made him feel like he wasn't so out of touch with his friends. Another great thing is that my insurance covers it as " Alternative Care " and pays 100% on anything related to his care at home. That will help so much. This last attack, my out of pocket expenses were $40.00.
