Guest guest
, I am a 38 year old male. I had a pyloris preserving Whipple (they leave the Stomach) at s Hopkins in January. I was in the hopital for 8 days. The recovery was tough as was getting off the pain meds. However I went back to work in September and have been getting stronger every day. I'm not on pain meds. It's taking some time to get back in the swing of things but I'm getting there. I do still taek pancreatic enzymes and Bentyl to prevent stomach cramps and diareah an effect of not having most of your pancreas. They left aprt of the panc so I'm not a diabetic. I was leary about having it done, but all in all it gave me my life back. My only advice would be to find a hospital that does them frequently. My research showed that those place offer the best chance for a succesful recovery. Well time to get ready for work. Good luck to you, and many prayers. The surgery was to treat a cancerous tumor in my small intestine located at the main bile duct. The surgery was successful and I have been cancer free for 16 years now. I developed Chronic Panc. in 1999 but the cause is really unknown. There is a possibility that over the years the effect of the modified Whipple helped to cause the Panc. condition but no one really would know that. My Whipple was successful, for the condition it treated. I was off work during recovery for 5 months and really didn't fully recover for over a year. It's very much major surgery but one must depend on the advice and skill of your GI and/or surgeon. I hope your choice and it's conclusion are successful and I wish you well. Guest guest
> hi from tomnjan56... finally i am getting on.. have had troubles just getting in... In response to whipple procedure,,, i say absolutely no way should you have this done. You think you are in pain now.. you couldn't believe what your in for. I think the docs urge this procedure because they don't know what else to do. If you do it... you can be sure that the scare tissue that will form at the surgery site will hamper your pan even more as scare tissue eventually turns hard like bone.I had the chief of surgery of 2 hosopitals tell me he was going to do this to me.... not ask me... but tell me... this is what i am going to do.. tom and i have done lots of research for many years on cp and this is an invasive procedure.... You want to avoid surgery at allcosts.... because it will do nothing but aggrevate the cp. I have had cp for 6 years now.... no picnic, right?I have been seen by the worst of the worst... and let's face it, the doc's don't have answers.... because they don't know the causes.. everyone is different. Now.. the last 3 years... i have found a saint of a doc!!! He is a real blessing... and i can't tell you how really good he is.... He listens to me... and i tell him everything... He is a pan specialist and has done numerous ERCP's on me. He put a stent in from my pan to the small intestine when i had a large pseudocyst on the mouth.... and after the initial 3 days of extreme pain... i was good.... really good. I have a history of pseudocysts.... toooo many too count... very large ones.. The last two large ones were bigger ( on top of) than my pan and the other was on top of my left kidney... it was even bigger... i saw the ct\scan and we couldn't believe how huge they were.. I was sent to a known surgeon for counsel. He said they had to be drained by surgery....... which is really bad..I talked about it to my good doc and I said i would like to try something by myself to get them down. So here's what I did .... I pray.... always i pray everyday... sometimes for god to take me because of the pain.. No such luck!! I meditate.... there is no right or wrong way to put yourself in a meditating state... just don't think about anything.... go blank.. relax..... lose all fear.... about everything... including fearing the next episode or attack..... lose that fear.... have no fear in your thoughts.... visualize a healthy body... start from your head and work your way down to your toes.... take your time.... time is on your side.... ... This is an involved process... you don't have to know anything in specific about the body... just that all body parts are pink with health and flowing. If you know of problem areas... imagine them in your mind and shoot them out... see them blast away.. they are gone for good.. I know this works because when i did this , after seeing the ct scan.... the next day... i was pain free... No pain meds at all and i was on demoral 50 every 4 hours... and that wasn't working. still now some 5 weeks later.... pain freeand loving every minute of it.. I went back to show the doc's the cysts were shrunk down to nothing!!! They had never seen anything like it before...they said.... how did you do that.... what did you do? so i explained it to them on paper so they could re read it over and over. They couldn't believe how good i looked.... i guess we don't realize how really bad we can look to others.... but it doesn't matter. There is so much more i can tell you if you want to know anything... at all... I still take enzymes and nexium and that's all. I watch my diet... 10 grms of fat a day... no more. any one of you should try this... You have to believe with every breath you take.... positve attitude and lose fear..... healthy flowing body... now... Pray... help yourst elf to heal... i will try and explain more if anyone wants to know more... i have horror stories.. but i have success stories too.. I like the successful ones the best! I know i am new talking to all of you,,, but after reading from you over and over months and months... maybe there is something i can do for you.. My heart always goes out to all of you as i can really relate to your lives... i have been there... and i am still there... so hang in.... let me know...just say hi or anything... take care.... jan
