My family doctor diagnosed me with acute pancreatitis. Matter of

fact, I went to him, Thursday, thinking I had the flu, he treated me,

drew blood, hooked me up on IV then sent me home with the promise

that I would go straight to bed and stay there on a clear liquid

diet.

If I didn't promise, he'd stick my " happy butt " in the hospital. He

called me the next morning and informed me of the diagnosis. He knew

I had already had my gall bladder out 6 years ago and quit drinking 13

years ago. Had me back Monday for more blood work. Told me thankfully

that I had a very mild attack and it was caught relatively quickly.

Then called this morning to say that my levels were " dramatically

improving " and he would see me Thursday.

All I can say if this is " very mild " I really do feel for you who

have severe problems! I'm sure that my annoyances are laughable but,

remember, I'm new and have enjoyed remarkable good health for most of

my life. I'm just amazed that it would take so long to come back and

bite me in the tail!

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

SheriBelle,

My first attack back in 2000 was relatively mild based on the levels of the

enzymes. However, I can tell the pain and nausea was anything but mild!

Has your doctor done anything to determine the cause of the attack? After my

first attack, I was sent home from the hospital after about 3 or 4 days with

absolutely no information on diet or anything. The doctor didn't seem the least

bit concerned about finding a cause. You don't just have acute pancreatitis for

no reason. Sometimes the cause cannot be found and it's considered idiopathic

but the doctors should at least try to determine the cause so that perhaps they

can prevent it from happening again.

Take care.
