Guest guest
FYI, A person with normal amylase and lipase counts can still have an attack of pancreatitis. If you are a smoker, beware as well, because nicotine can constrict blood vessels, which affect the flow of blood through the pancreas, and can trigger an attack. Several times in the past, my wife has had what she thought was a pancreatitis attack; her counts were normal, but still having the trademark pain, but without the pain going through to her back. An endoscopy revealed a blockage (bizoar) about the size of a baseball in her small intestine. The blockage is caused by the eating of leafy vegetables (salads, spinach, etc.) in patients who do not digest these items well. Keep this in mind and tell your doctor to check for a blockage if your counts are low. A LOT OF EMERGENCY ROOM DOCTORS DO NOT KNOW WHAT A BIZOAR IS, SO YOU MAY HAVE TO TELL THEM TO CHECK FOR AN INTESTINAL BLOCKAGE!
